Summary: Participates in planning and development of communication strategies.

Participates in the daily planning and execution of communication objectives and goals.

Writes and reviews news materials and public relations materials for various publications. Shoots and edits video for social media channels and participates in unit's social media channels.

Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems as appropriate. Represents the unit at various internal and external meetings; promotes existing and new programs and performs various job-related duties as assigned.

Classification Summary:

The purpose of the internship is to help NMSU students launch their careers in the news media industry.

Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for supporting communication needs of a department or unit. May participate in writing, communication planning, video and social media engagement.

Classification Standard Duties:

Writes and reviews news materials and public relations materials for various publications. Shoots and edits video for social media channels and participates in unit's social media channels.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Bachelor's degree in a related field (ex. CMI, journalism, marketing; and communications) and no previous work experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of regulations and guidelines governing media outlets.; SKILLS:Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Information research, analysis, and evaluation skills.; ABILITIES:Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
