Performs newborn hearing screens and provides education to parents pertaining to the relevance of screening and early intervention. Position will also support the department with other job functions as needed.

Performs a variety of hearing screening duties by:
Performs newborn hearing screens in patient rooms unless conditions do not permit, utilizing approved guidelines and completes necessary documentation.
Observes and adheres to universal precautions for infection prevention as outlined by department and hospital standards, as well as all pertinent policies and procedures.
Adheres to guidelines regarding screening results.
Follow established protocols to maintain infant security, safety, and proper identification.
Provides education to parents and caregivers regarding the importance of screening, early intervention, and prevention of infant hearing loss.
Schedules patients for outpatient screens and referrals as needed.
Ensures the results of the screening are accurately documented in the patient record and sent to the state.
Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
Complies with established organization and department policies.
Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of pertinent medical terminology.
Has the ability to learn and operate hearing screening equipment.
Possess basic computer skills.
Possess strong organizational skills and be highly attentive to detail.
