New York Editor

POLITICO is seeking an enterprising and collaborative journalist to serve as a New York Editor. The editor will help lead an ambitious team of a dozen journalists based in Albany and New York City, publishing political and policy stories that will shape the conversation in the state's power centers.

New York is a key pillar of POLITICO's editorial and business strategy. We want a leader who can help us achieve our goals in the state. We're looking for an expansive thinker who can take our work to new heights, devising fresh angles, exploring new storytelling formats and helping our readers better understand the intersection of politics, policy and power. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional writer and line editor and able to quickly understand and execute on our distinctive approach. The position reports to the Senior New York Editor and will located in either Albany or New York City.

What You'll Do:

• Help run a team of high-energy reporters covering state and city government, politics, campaign finance, health care, education, energy, housing, transit and infrastructure, likely owning a specific topic portfolio.

• Deliver a steady cadence of innovative, thought-provoking enterprise stories and scoops for readers in New York, Washington and across the globe.

• Edit a mix of full-length articles and short pieces, both breaking news and enterprise, for professional subscribers and a larger consumer audience.

• Ensure our political and policy newsletters continue to be essential daily reads.

What You'll Need:

• Proven leadership skills and an active, hands-on approach to editing.

• Demonstrated high emotional intelligence.

• A deep well of ideas and a strong sense of how to execute them.

• Knowledge of state or city government, and a familiarly with the people and institutions that drive it.

• Polished writing and editing skills, with the ability to deliver stories for both niche, local readers and to a broader consumer audience.

• Collaborative approach to working across the team and the overall newsroom.

• Strong leadership skills and an active, hands-on approach to editing.

• Ability to juggle tight deadlines and a demanding schedule.

• A rigorous commitment to fair-minded, nonpartisan journalism.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in New York, NY or Albany, NY is $115,000.00-$150,000.00 per year. The final salary offered to a successful candidate, which may be higher than the current anticipated salary range, will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, type and years of experience within the industry, education, etc.
