POSITION SUMMARY

The New Product Development Engineer - Thermal will participate in the new product development process and provide technical support on Thermal projects. This position will use the design for service principles to ensure that safety, serviceability, and service business goals are met. The position will collaborate with global technical leads to ensure consistency in execution and service readiness for the Thermal products. The candidate will participate in service strategy review and report program updates to service leadership team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Projects

  • Provide technical expertise in development of service plans for new products.

  • Represent Vertiv Services at design reviews, product reviews, and phase gate reviews.

  • Perform serviceability and safety review of prototype unit. Provide recommendations to product and service teams.

  • Participate in the review of Engineering Requirement Document and provide feedback.

  • Participate in electrical and mechanical design reviews and address serviceability and safety concerns.

  • Develop source material for first article units or pre-release training classes with members of the Thermal Commercial Training team.

  • With engineering assistance, develop maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.

  • Lead startup of initial new product shipment. Perform thorough evaluation of startup including and report any findings.

  • Monitor new product quality. Track product performance for the first year. Provide feedback to engineering and product management.

  • Act as the Vertiv Services representative on the Engineering Change Control Board

  • Participate in development and update of Global Serviceability Specification for new products.

  • Update ET1025 document for warranty labor guidelines

  • Collaborate with service functional representatives to ensure service deliverables readiness prior to gate reviews.

  • Technical Support for new products during transitioning to Sustaining Support team.

  • Provide Domestic and International Technical Assistance

  • Provide on-site Technical Assistance as required.

  • Lead customer meetings and teleconferences as directed.

  • Participate in root cause investigation for critical sites.

  • Model and enforce Vertiv safety guidelines at all times.

  • Sustaining for new products

  • Lead development of service-related documentation.

  • Provide support to Logistics for parts research, spare kits, and parts sourcing.

  • Review COs and develop Service Tips, Field Change Notices, and Safety Bulletins.

  • Participate in Quality actions, Blitz reviews, and Field Issues meetings.

  • Coordinate with the manufacturing centers to ensure timely information exchange of all products, i.e. COs, ETO.

  • Administration

  • Submit expense reports, trip reports, and timecards accurately and on time.

  • Represent service and present at new products tollgate review meetings and provide updates to management.

  • Organizational Readiness

  • Attend new product and self-development training classes.

  • Document new tooling or test equipment requirements.

  • Train Thermal Technical Support and attend first classes for CEs on new products.

  • Lead documentation and TKO development for new products.

  • Develop startup and PM forms for new products.

  • Provide technical guidance to Marketing in development of Scope of Work documents, and new services.

  • Stay familiar with new products/environments that may affect product operation to include new revisions, updates, upgrades, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of field service or three years' experience as a Technical Support Engineer.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to communicate and present material to Executive Management.

  • Possess a positive attitude and flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Detail oriented and self-motivated with the ability to work without direct supervision.

  • Proficient PC skills including all Microsoft Office products and web-based technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Course development and instructional experience with an emphasis on technical training is preferred.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's Degree in a business related or technical field preferred (or equivalent of education and experience)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Occasional Protective Equipment Required (earplugs, gloves, eyewear, respirator, mask, etc.)

TRAVEL TIME REQUIRED

  • Up to 15% domestic and international travel may be required.
