New Product Development Engineer

This position is responsible for using engineering techniques and knowledge to assist in the development of new products, resolution of problems with existing products and processes.

• Develops test fixtures and methods to perform related functional testing and inspection. Performs lab testing as needed. Analyzes results to arrive at a conclusion and provides recommendations.

• Supports the engineering department by performing engineering analysis, including but not limited to strength of materials, heat transfer and fluid flow. Utilizes appropriate software to accomplish results.

• Works seamlessly between clients, internal sales, internal engineering and automation and tooling vendors to conceptualize, design, prototype, test, and commercialize innovative packaging solutions

• Responsible for internal and external technical design issues and concerns relating to customer and Silgan Dispensing Systems Slatersville inquiries.

• Performs statistical analysis to arrive at conclusions for process improvement projects and new project qualifications.

• Composes written engineering reports to support sales and operations. Creates presentations to assist in sales support.

• Verify and approve all product-related information and specifications. Coordinate design activities with other departments.

• Able to convey needs to vendors and obtain quotes.

• Understand and utilize rapid prototyping such as 3D printing and quick/rapid tooling to create functioning samples.

• Coordination with tooling vendors to produce high quality and effective pre-production and production injection molds. Use SolidWorks to provide detailed and effective product 2D prints/drawings.

• Aid engineering department in qualifying molds: Measurements, Testing, and Statistical analysis

REQUIREMENTS

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering

• Minimum of 3 years' experience of mechanical product design - 3D required

• Proficiency in Solid works

• Able to read and create2D drawings

• Demonstrated knowledge of plastic injection molding

• Lab testing experience

• Ability to create test plans

• Ability to design test fixtures

• Ability to execute test plans

• Statistical analysis experience preferred

• Minitab

• Alteryx Designer

• Measurement capabilities

• Hand measurement devices (calipers, micrometers and drop indicators)

• Optical comparator

• CMM (MicroVu) experience preferred

• Understanding injection molding of and polyethylene plastics

• Basic understanding of injection molds

• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

• Ability to read and write technical reports

• Teamwork skills and be receptive to collaboration.

• Innovative mindset and ability to make concepts a reality

• Willing to travel, approximately 15%. Subject to change for business need
