It has 1,048 inpatient beds and offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center; a major surgery suite containing 51 operating rooms; an endosurgery center; an ambulatory surgery center with nine operating rooms, and an extensive diagnostic and interventional radiology area.
General Medicine Stepdown 4300: A 31-bed unit caring for patients with a variety of diagnosis: sepsis, sickle cell, GI bleed, end stage renal failure, diabetes, cirrhosis, and behavioral health disorders.
General Medicine Stepdown 2300: A 32-bed unit that cares for a variety of diagnosis: cardiac, pulmonary, liver, renal, sickle cell, diabetes, infectious diseases, wound care, med-psych, and GI.
Pulmonary Medicine Stepdown 7800: A 28-bed unit, including 6 ventilator beds that cares for advanced lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, pre and post lung transplant idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis as well as a variety of medical diseases involving all the body systems.
General Surgery Stepdown 2100: A 32-bed unit that cares for a patient population that includes intermediate and stepdown level patients, GI, GI oncology, ENT, general surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, urology, obstetrics/gynecology, trauma, and orthopedics.
General Surgery Stepdown 8300: A 31-bed unit that cares for a patient population that includes abdominal and vascular surgeries, abdominal oncology, and a variety of trauma patients.
Abdominal Transplant 6DCT: A 37-bed with a complex patient population of pre-liver transplant, liver transplant, kidney transplant, pancreas transplant, small bowel transplant, and hand transplant.

Ortho/Neuro Unit 7-1: A 40-bed unit with a patient population of orthopedic and neuroscience specialties as well as general medicine.
General Medicine Unit 4-1: A 34-bed unit caring for a patient population including cardiac telemetry and patients with respiratory illness who do not quality for ICU.
General Medicine Dialysis 5-1: A 36-bed unit caring for a diverse patient population including renal insufficiency, CHF, COPD Peritoneal Dialysis, Sepsis, Pneumonia, insulin and heparin drips.
Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown 5-2: A 33-bed unit caring for a patient population including CHF, COPD, chest pain, dysrhythmias, CABG's, pre and post procedural patients, insulin drips, heparin drips, and several cardiac drips.
General Surgery/Bariatric 6-3: A 28-bed unit with a patient population including general surgery, vascular, urology, colorectal, and plastics patients.
Duke Raleigh Hospital provides a patient-friendly setting no matter where you visit us -- in our hospital's North Pavilion, South Pavilion, or clinics. The hospital has 204 inpatient beds and offers a comprehensive array of services, including, cancer care, cardiovascular care, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal care, and wound healing. We also maintain laboratory and imaging services, a pain clinic, 24/7 emergency care, community outreach and education programs.
4200 Med Surg: A 45-bed unit with a diverse patient population including but not limited to sepsis, pneumonia, diabetes, sickle cell, GI complications, step-down care, cardiac drips, and mental health disorder.
3200 Ortho Med Surg: A 46-bed unit with a patient population including med surg, ortho non-spine surgeries and post operative patients.
5200 Oncology Med Surg: A 37-bed unit with a patient population that includes symptom management for oncology patients, administration of chemotherapeutic agents, and end-of-life care.
General Medicine Stepdown 5-3: A 40-bed unit with a patient population that includes intermediate and progressive/stepdown care: some surgery, neurology, palliative care, and inpatient hospice.
Program Summary
This 18-month program helps new nurses set a solid foundation for their nursing careers and gain a wide array of acute care experience in one of Duke Health's three hospitals in Durham and Raleigh. Following a general nursing orientation, new nurses will orient to three different acute care units over an eight-week period, before interviewing for their unit preference for the remainder of the program. New nurses will be assigned a mentor as well as participate in seminars on acute care topics and special experience observations to explore the patient continuum of care beyond acute care.
Candidates of this program will need to be registered with the North Carolina Board of Nursing by no later than July 24, 2024.

General Description of the Job Class
Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with the medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Plan, provide and document professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.
Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care.
Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and material resources. Prioritize work organization and identify resources available to assist in completing components of care in a timely manner.
Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
Support the development of other staff and formal learners.
Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in performance improvement activities.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program.
Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within five years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.

All CNIs will be enrolled in and must complete the DUHS Vizient Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire.
