What does a chemical process engineer do?
A process engineer can have many different responsibilitiesdepending on the group they work in. Broadly speaking, a process engineer usesengineering tools to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control a chemicalprocess. Process engineers can directly see how their work impacts the successof a company.
The types of problems a process engineer typically works onincludes:
Developing ways to improve raw material yields
Implementing energy efficiency improvements ina chemical process
Analyzing and evaluating economical ways todebottleneck a process
Observing a chemical operation and analyzingdata to recommend improvements
Developing or improving operating procedures toachieve improvements
Performing equipment design and sizingcalculations for new chemical processing equipment
Scaling up a process from a lab, bench, orpilot scale to a commercialized scale
Analyzing process hazards and then implementingsolutions to mitigate those hazards
