Summary:

A professional management position assuming 24-hour responsibility for supervising and coordinating the administrative and operational activities in the assigned areas. In collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, assures safe, efficient and cost effective care to the patients within the assigned areas. Assists in the provision of care to patients of all age groups.

Leadership Responsibility:

The Clinical Manager operationalizes the institutions philosophy of nursing care delivery and participates in the development of departmental goals. The Clinical Manager is responsible for all professional and hourly employees within the assigned areas.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in nursing theory and practice of nursing process.

  • Nurses assigned to a specialty unit will be required to meet criteria established for that unit.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, B.S.N. However, alternate degrees will be considered.

  • Experience: Work requires level of knowledge of organization and operation of a patient care area, and knowledge of nursing care techniques and methods, generally acquired through THREE to FIVE Years of experience as a professional nurse, with one year experience in appropriate specialty area (may be concurrent). Prior management/supervisory/leadership experience required.

  • Registration, Certification or Licensure Requirement: Current Ohio RN Licensure; Current Basic Life Support Certificate Required; Certification in area of specialty preferred.

  • Knowledge and Abilities: Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to provide effective leadership. Must possess analytical abilities necessary to oversee and organize the work of others and to develop and administer policies, procedures, budgets and effect sound nursing practices.

Responsible for general clinical and clerical duties associated with direct and indirect patient care. Reports to the Office Manager, supervisor, physician, and/or R.N. Provides care to pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 1. Must be a graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program, or a Licensed Practical Nurse, or have a minimum of 5 years practical experience working as a Medical Assistant. Current certification or licensure required. If not currently certified/registered must obtain within six (6) months of employment. 2. Two years of previous experience in a physician's office or ambulatory care setting preferred. 3. Must possess current CPR certification. 4. Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians and other personnel. Must demonstrate sensitivity to the patient care situation. 5. Must possess ability to adjust to varying work levels in order to complete multiple tasks based on department's daily needs. 6. Working knowledge of Microsoft office or equivalent. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Works in a patient care environment with some exposure to communicable diseases and unpleasant odors. 2. Work requires prolonged walking, standing, with some lifting, stooping, bending and pushing. Use of proper body mechanics required. Key Job Duties and Responsibilities 1. Directs patients to patient care areas and obtains chief complaint and/or reason for visit, vital signs, height and weight. Maintains patient flow in clinical areas. 2. Performs diagnostic testing (EKG, PFT, minor lab) as ordered. May perform venipuncture. 3. Maintains appropriate records including documentation, review of chart for current information, patient notes, dictation, etc. 4. Assists physician with procedures, treatments, minor surgeries and exams as needed. 5. Provides some basic procedures under the direction of the physician, mid-level provider, or R.N. 6. Performs some basic triage functions with referral to appropriate medical professional. 7. Reviews daily schedule to prepare charts for daily appointments. Follows up on missed appointments. 8. Perform functions of patient services coordinator such as obtaining and verifying patient demographic information, enter data into the computer, obtaining co-pays and entering billing charges into the computer. 9. Maintains inventory and stocks exam rooms. Maintains patient care equipment in good working order to ensure quality control procedures and in accordance with regulatory guidelines. 10. Assists in ensuring compliance with the state, federal and other regulatory agencies. 11. Administers medications and documents. 12. May be required to float based on staffing needs. 13. Provides service to all age groups. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.
