Position Summary

Under general supervision and medical direction, following the Minimum Guidelines for Electroneurodiagnostic testing by the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS), the Neurodiagnostic Technologist I; utilizes best practice to perform Neurodiagnostic testing procedures including, but not limited to, Electroencephalograms (EEG), and Video Telemetry Seizure Monitoring including: Long Term Epilepsy Monitoring (LTM); Continuous EEG Monitoring (CEEG); Evoked Potential (VER, BAER, SSEP); Transcranial Doppler Monitoring (TCD); must be able to equally participate in the On-Call/Standby rotation for after hours, weekends and Holiday coverage; is responsible for completion of daily work assignments, notifying management of supply and equipment needs, and proper maintenance and cleaning of the lab area and equipment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Provides excellent customer service by demonstrating respect for patient's right to personal dignity and their cultural, psychosocial and spiritual values. Promotes the medical center's vision and value statements by performing all duties with respect to the hospital's responsibilities under the law.

  • "Performs and documents assessment of patients' testing needs through data collection and analysis, collection of pertinent history and physical examination. Makes decisions about testing based on assessment and develops plans for testing utilizing neurodiagnostic protocols and procedures."

  • Provides and documents diagnostic measurements to meet goals for diagnostic evaluation; working within the scope of practice for a neurodiagnostic technologist; following established medical center policies, procedures, and protocols. Monitors outcomes of testing and modifies the plan for care when indicated.

  • Actively participates in training students, and new hires. Participates in cross training taught by physicians and peers so that technologists are trained to perform all department procedures.

  • Completes exams in a timely manner, communicating with co-workers, supervisors and patients and/or their family about any delay.

  • Effectively and respectfully communicates with other health team members and areas of care with regard to the patient's plan for testing and evaluation and makes recommendations for alternative test options. Coordinates evaluation with other members of the health care team to achieve desired goals and outcomes.

  • Provides effective first aid for patients requiring special care.

  • Participates in efforts to improve the performance of the neurodiagnostic department and organization. Provides manager and other clinical leaders with information on issues that pertain to patient safety, opportunities to improve outcomes in test procedure, and improvements in systems and processes.

  • Applies knowledge of policies and procedures designed to provide a cost conscious, safe, functional, and effective environment for patients, staff, and other individuals in the hospital; follows policies for safety, fire, hazardous materials, infection control, and medical devices.

  • Assumes responsibility for attaining, retaining, and renewing Neurodiagnostic certifications, continuing education, basic life-support certification, and required in-house education.

  • Learn other END modalities within the time frame set by you and your manager.

  • Maintains core and unit-specific competencies

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Two years clinical Electroneurodiagnostic experience in an acute care hospital setting hospital setting with a Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist credential

OR

  • A graduate from an accredited Neurodiagnostic program who has completed one year clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting as a clinical student, required.

  • Must be eligible for credential in (Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist) from the American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET) and successfuly obtain (Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist) within one year of hire.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Highschool diploma or GED, required

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required

  • Graduate of Nationally Accredited Electroneurodiagnostic program with an Associate of Science in Neurodiagnostic Technology Degree is preferred.

  • Board eligible for credential in (Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist) from The American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET). Must successfully obtain within one year of hire.
