What you'll be doing...

The Verizon Network Detection and Response threat research team is responsible for analyzing current and historical customer network traffic (PCAPs) to identify malicious activity. Threat analysts create new detections and IOCs for product ingestion from internal data, internal research as well as external research reports.

The Network Threat Research Analyst will have the following responsibilities:

  • Create and review network detection recommendations to identify malicious activity in customer and publicly accessible telemetry.

  • Assists senior staff with public and private reports for customers, helping grow customer awareness of threat activity and possibly assisting in incident response efforts.

  • Recommend new cyber threat intelligence resources from internal research and external suppliers for retrospective analysis and future detections.

  • Monitor the threat landscape in an effort to understand threats and ways to detect them, identify intelligence requirements, and produce product and customer return.

  • Assists senior staff with technical and non-technical blog posts, whitepapers, conference talks, and other public content on threat research and intelligence topics.

What we're looking for...

You will need to have

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience.

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge of network protocols, network analysis tools, and general network architecture.

  • Knowledge of IDS/NDR systems.

Even better if you have...

  • A degree.

  • Knowledge of Suricata IDS signature interpretation and creation.

  • Proficient at analyzing and dissecting PCAP data to validate security events, interpret network traffic, and extract indicators.

  • Knowledge of attacker tools, malware families, and known threat actor/group TTPs.

  • Experience hunting for unknown threats, as well as tracking existing campaigns and adversaries.

This office complies with federal and state mandated reporting requirements, participates in national surveys, administers student surveys, and publishes data pertaining to students, graduates, and employees. Data is made available to internal and external stakeholders for the purposes of informing, decision-making, strategic planning, budgeting, and measuring effectiveness. The Research Analyst is responsible for extracting and processing periodic census and final standard reporting data sets; compiling and submitting the Student Unit Record Data System (SURDS) data to the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE), and supporting other CDHE data requests; collecting data definitions and validating reporting data; creating and maintaining a central repository of standard longitudinal institutional data; analyzing data and producing routine standard data summaries of enrollment, courses, admission, degree completion, human resources and other reports in response to federal, state, and external agencies, including Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS); processing data requests; using visual presentation tools to produce charts and maps for the Factbook and regular enrollment updates; compiling summaries of student data for the Common Data Set, program reviews, and Factbook; supporting other institutional research and data collection efforts as needed. Description of Job Primary Duties * Extract and process periodic census and final standard reporting data sets; collect data definitions and validate reporting data; ensure data quality and collaborate with offices responsible for correcting data errors; compile and submit SURDS data to CDHE; create and maintain a central repository of standard longitudinal institutional data for official reporting; coordinate with Information Technology Services staff for developing data sets that comply with mandated reporting requirements. * Analyze and summarize data to meet precise federal reporting criteria for national surveys such as IPEDS, Common Data Set, and US News. Data summaries include enrollments, courses, admissions, degree-completion, human resources, and other data sets. * Design and maintain interactive visual dashboards based on official data to standardize the mission-critical and periodic institutional reports for quick information retrieval in user-friendly formats and provide longitudinal comparisons. Administer, analyze, and report results from student surveys. Maintain updated dashboards, Factbook and other information on the Institutional Research website that emphasizes visual presentation of data. * Respond to information requests of internal and external information users and stakeholders by compiling and analyzing institutional data and producing results for administrative units, academic units, and other key functional areas in the university as well as state and federal agencies. Support ongoing internal processes that rely on data such as university and program accreditation, program reviews, and President's Advisory Budget Committee. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Minimum Qualifications * Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, with coursework and emphasis in a quantitative area of study * Demonstrated knowledge in relational database management and basic concepts in data analysis * Practical knowledge and skills in SQL, advanced level MS Access, or visual programming * Demonstrated ability to learn new software and general front-end reporting tools * Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations, to prioritize and to manage multiple projects and deadlines * Attention to detail Preferred Qualifications * Master's or advanced degree from a accredited institution, with coursework and emphasis in a quantitative area of study * Experience in IPEDS or other web-based online data management and reporting * Experience supporting institutional research efforts in higher education with specific experience in database management * Additional knowledge in statistical modeling, inferential statistics, SPSS, Tableau, or web development software * Two years of experience in an institutional research environment Supplemental Information All interested candidates must apply through the on-line application system.
