Position Title: Network Administrator

Reports To: Chief Technology Officer

Supervises: N/A

Job Description:

  • Assists in the supervision of all school department technology activities including system analysis, infrastructure design and implementation, and equipment acquisition and maintenance.

  • Develops short and long-range plans regarding the implementation, maintenance and upgrade of technology for the school district.

  • Develops plans for future requirements in terms of the latest developments in computer technology and network solutions for education.

  • Assists in the development of school department standards for computer hardware, software and networking equipment procurement and deployment.

  • Provides general management of the district's user management, networks and related WAN system.

  • Performs other duties, responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and Director of Technology.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer network workstations and servers, utilizing one or more TCP/IP or non-TCP/IP networking protocols.

  • Communicate with vendors regarding quotes and purchases related to new technology implementations

  • Evaluate and/or recommend purchases of computers, network hardware, servers, peripheral equipment and software.

  • Investigate user problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and implement solutions.

  • Install, configure, and maintain personal computers, file servers, Ethernet networks, routers, switches, printers, wireless networks, network cabling and other related equipment, devices and systems; adds or upgrades existing network equipment.

  • Plan and implement network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity and adding, deleting and maintaining users.

  • Troubleshoot networks, systems and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.

  • Setup and maintain SSO portals, including online curriculum platforms for staff and students.

  • Identify utilization patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and performance.

  • Anticipate communication and networking problems and implement preventive measures.

  • Establish and perform maintenance programs following district and vendor standards.

  • Ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and operating procedures that optimize network availability.

  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.

  • Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Minimum high school graduate. Preferred Bachelors or Associates in Technology or related discipline; Net+ or equivalent certification in lieu of no degree. Pay commensurate with experience.

  • Candidates must have knowledge/experience managing a Google Workspaces environment (or equivalent domain). Must also have experience managing a MS Windows production environment (with both Mac & PC present). Python scripting experience is a plus. Experience managing enterprise wireless required; Ruckus experience is a plus.

  • Candidates must hold a valid drivers' license and are required to have their own, reliable transportation. Must be able to lift 80 pounds comfortably, be comfortable working on a ladder in non-plenum environments, and be comfortable with overhead work. Must be comfortable working around children and adults
