Overview

Performs a variety of activities necessary to provide desktop and software application support to end users to ensure proper and effective operations

Responsibilities

  • Configures desktops, installs desktop based software and establishes connection to network(s) in accordance with specified standards

  • Applies standard image to desktops and authorized software to ensure consistency in desktop configurations

  • Removes desktops from domain, cleans hardware by deleting profile and replaces in inventory

  • Installs and/or replaces hardware and associated devices including, but not limited to: CD drives, network cards, hard-drives and removable disk drives; refers complex hardware problems to vendor for resolution

  • Trouble-shoots hardware and software problems by performing a variety of diagnostic procedures to identify appropriate corrective measures

  • Actively participates in deployment and relocation of desktop and associated peripheral equipment

  • Tests upgrades and/or patches to software prior to rollout; prepares report of findings

  • Provides basic application assistance and/or in-service to end user as requested

  • Connects individual and networked devices to desktop; performs initial connectivity test to ensure proper connectivity.

  • Performs a variety of acceptance testing procedures of newly acquired hardware to ensure proper operations

  • Maintains inventory of all loaned desktop and peripheral equipment and accessories; initiates requests for replacements to ensure availability in accordance with established policy and standards

  • Traces and trouble-shoots network connectivity problems; notifies Telecom/Desktop Specialist as appropriate

  • As assigned, responds to work-order requests for technical assistance; updates database to reflect activities performed and status of request to ensure timely completion of work order in accordance with established schedule

  • Prepares and presents reports and analyses of activities.

  • Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives

  • Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or closely related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute; A+ Certification preferred

  • Must have at least 2 years previous telecommunications experience including responsibilities for desktop maintenance

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Applicants must meet one of the following qualification requirements in order to be considered at the GS-05 level: Education: A 4-year course of study above high school leading to a Bachelor's degree with courses related to the position. Examples of related courses include: psychology, social work, education, human service, counseling, rehabilitation, etc.; OR Specialized Experience: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level providing physical and psychological care for clients in a residential treatment facility, or related setting, to prevent and treat social problems like substance abuse, dysfunctional family, trauma-related emotional disturbances, etc. Knowledge of chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders is highly desirable. Prior experience in the following fields may be found qualifying: teacher's aide, paraprofessional, social work assistant, human services assistant, behavioral health technician, residential aide, substance abuse technician, nursing assistant or medical assistant. OR Combination of education and specialized experience as described above: 1 year of experience is equivalent to 12 months or 52 weeks of full-time work.
