GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This analyst position, under limited supervision, provides technical support to and is the subject matter expert for enterprise systems. This position is also responsible for the management of network switching and wireless hardware while providing fast, reliable, and secure network connectivity to State employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Closet and data center maintenance. Install, configure, maintain, and manage closet switches, wireless access points, and data center switches. Install, maintain, and manage physical data connections between closet switches, wireless access points, data center switches, and patch panels. Troubleshoot network connectivity issues. Test and verify network cable and fiber connections.

  • Tier 2 NetworkSupport provides technical support for the enterprise Unified Network. Oversees the resolution of user-created tickets and minor service requests. Assists in the gathering of relevant information, troubleshooting, root cause diagnosis, and resolution implementation. Reassigns issues to the proper team when the root cause is not network-related.

  • Network Project Support prepares peer reviews and implements network changes. Assists with circuit installs, disconnects, and upgrades, hardware replacement, and network operating system software upgrades. Communicates and coordinates with other ETS teams, agencies, and users as needed.

  • Documents and shares network information. Creates and updates diagrams for all large or complex networks. Manages and uses a variety of systems for automated documentation when available.

  • TrainingMaintain a current working knowledge of networking software tools, proper device configuration, industry protocols, effective troubleshooting techniques, or design topology.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to those with Cisco and/or Juniper Certifications

Preference may be given to those with experience in network administration

Preference may be given to those with experience in the supporting and monitoring of wide area networks

Preference may be given to those with experience in the installation, modification, or replacement of hardware or software components and any configuration changes that affect network infrastructures

Preference may be given to those with experience in configuration, maintenance and monitoring of wireless network systems for use in large-scale network

Preference may be given to those with experience in Linux operating systems

KNOWLEDGE:

  • General skills in analysis of complex network systems, problem identification and solution design.

  • General knowledge of IP networking

  • General knowledge of networking hardware used in the State's enterprise network infrastructure.

  • Understanding of the principles, practices and techniques of network topologies and OSI model.

  • Ability to work with direction and with guidance as needed to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to learn new technical concepts quickly and apply them to current work.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical persons efficiently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Computer Technology)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Computer Technology) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Systems Technologist I

OR

Education & ExperienceSubstitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Computer Technology) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Systems Technologist I

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Some travel required

  • Evening and weekend work

  • On-Call shifts

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Work is performed in an office setting. Telework may be available with a telework approval process agreement.
