What You'll Get to Do:

As a Firewall Engineer SME, you will plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.

More About This Role:

  • Attends technical exchange meetings to consult with clients, project managers, and system administrators to gather information and determine customer requirements.

  • Researches, configures, and tests various network devices in a lab setup before deploying to customer production environments.

  • Works within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure. Monitoring and analysis of network characteristics using Cisco ADSM, ACS, and other related utilities and appliances.

  • Prepares script configuration files for Cisco devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, gateways, email guards, anti-malware systems. E

  • valuates and reports on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

  • Provides installation instructions and procedures to assist with deployment and troubleshooting for maintenance support groups.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, attending technical conferences, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Experience configuring/operating various firewall platforms (Cisco NGFW/ASA, Juniper SRX)

  • Experience creating network diagrams using Microsoft Visio

  • Experience configuring/operating centralized authentication software/systems (Cisco Secure ACS, Cisco ISE)

  • Development and maintenance of High Level and Low Level Design documentation

  • Strong troubleshooting skills, analytical problem solving ability, and organizational skills

  • Experience creating presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Strong communications skills

  • Certification Required: CCNA - Routing and Switching (Current)

Candidate must have one of the following:

  • 12 Years of job related experience and High School/GED diploma
  • 10 Years of job related experience and Associate degree
  • 8 Years of job related experience and Bachelor's degree
  • 6 Years of job related experience and Master's degree
  • 4 Years of job related experience and Doctorate

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • CCNA Security (Must be working toward this certification)

  • CISCO and/or Juniper certifications


  • Juniper Networks Certified Specialist Security (JNCIS-SEC)

  • Experience working with IDS/IPS products (Cisco FMC/FirePOWER, Fortinet, TippingPoint)

  • Experience with Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and Email Security Appliances (Cisco ESA, Cisco FireAMP)

  • Administrator level ability with UNIX (Linux or other variant) is highly desirable

  • Experience with Software-Defined Networking and Software-Defined WAN technology

  • Core Hours: 0900 - 1500

In this role, you will provide a senior support engineering role to support enterprise network security solutions such as firewalls, IPS, tap aggregation, packet capture, content filtering and cloud security tools. We're looking for a candidate who can support this role from one of our following locations: Orlando - FL, Reston - VA, or Gaithersburg - MD. You will primarily work on complex projects and implement large changes to support the Network Security Engineering team and the larger corporate initiatives. Additionally, you will provide guidance and assistance to junior engineers. As an engineer on the Network Security Operations team, you will interact regularly with the Network Security Engineering team, CSIRT, Network Operations team, and on-site technical resources to ensure both the security and on-going stability of Leidos' Corporate network. Primary Responsibilities * Support the Leidos cyber security mission by building, configuring, troubleshooting, and updating the network security capabilities that protect Leidos' core networks and information. * Follow established network security processes to defend and operate the global Leidos network. * Provide technical expertise to large or complex projects * Develop network security boundaries and zones * Establish and maintain documentation library (CONOPS, Standard Operating Procedures, System Security Plans) * Develop technical solutions that require collaboration with internal experts, analysis and understanding of impact * Participate in an on-call rotation to provide emergency support for the corporate network security environment. * Provide feedback to team leadership to improve existing solutions so they better meet the business' needs. * Provider technical leadership to junior engineers and analysts. Develops solutions to technical problems and issues that are unclear and require deep technical knowledge. Basic Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, including 2+ year in an enterprise network or security environment.
