Network Operations Systems Administrator

Key Role:

Monitor and maintain mission critical systems, enterprise services, and networking infrastructure across multiple physical sites on disparate networks. Serve as the Tier III support to escalate and resolve technical issues on operational network environments. Support problem management resolutions by tracking system-wide problems on operational networks and work with engineering support, including network engineering, systems engineering, catapult operations, and desktop engineering to see problem troubleshooting through to resolution. Support the operation and maintenance of critical Windows and Linux systems to maintain operational availability and an excellent security posture through system configuration and patching or STIGs maintenance. Conduct firewall changes, F5 iRules, and DNS entries, manage port security, and provide real time monitoring of network systems and computer assets through SolarWinds. Log all incidents, requests, questions, tasks, and projects in BMC Remedy, apply thorough diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes, recommend solutions on the operational mission infrastructure, create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all troubleshooting procedures, and move or replace IT equipment to support office moves, new system requirements, and malfunctioning devices, as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience with IT systems administration

  • Experience with developing and enhancing IT troubleshooting processes

  • Experience with Windows, including 2012R2 and 2016 or RedHat Enterprise Linux, including RHEL 6 and RHEL 7

  • Experience with DoD IT security requirements, including installing patches and conducting STIG reviews in YUM or Puppet

  • Ability to analyze and refine standard operating procedures

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

  • HS diploma or GED required

  • Active DoDI 8570 Security Certification, including Security+, CCNASecurity, or CISSP prior to start date

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with DevOps

  • Experience with systems and service monitoring, including SolarWinds and ELK

  • Experience with networking, including Port Security, Firewalls, F5 support, and DNS

  • Experience with remediation practices

  • Experience with various applications, including Splunk, McAfee Security Suite, Microsoft Exchange, Lucidworks, Net Brain, Microsoft SCCM, and Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager

  • Experience with using BMC Remedy for ticket queue maintenance and ticket tracking

  • Experience with virtualization, including VMware and VDI

  • Experience with managing AD and Group Policy

  • Knowledge of vulnerability and STIG scanning tools, including Nessus, SCC Tool, ACAS, and Tanium

  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

  • BA or BS degree in Information Systems

  • Information Systems training or certifications

Specific Tasks Include: * Server asset management, including the maintenance of Microsoft and Red Hat security patches and the application DISA security hardening guidance * 24x7 monitoring of server assets through Solarwinds * Logs all incidents, requests, questions, tasks, and projects in BMC Remedy * Applies thorough diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes, and recommend solutions on the operational server infrastructure * Creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for all troubleshooting procedures * Move or replace server equipment as necessary to support office moves and malfunctioning devices * Some local travel may be required between client facilities (Northern VA area) Responsibilities: Windows Server 2016 and 2012 Administration * Experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux (YUM, Puppet, Apache Tomcat, Apache Solr) * Networking experience to include Cisco switches/routers and Juniper firewall * Working knowledge of storage solutions, Windows server clustering, and server high-availability implementations * Working knowledge of the following protocols: IP (TCP and UDP), SNMP, SMTP, NDMP * Strong writing and oral communication skills; Ability to develop and refine standard operating procedures * Past experience in maintaining and developing network maps using automated and manual tools * Working experience with Visio * Solarwinds Monitoring * Experience with Splunk, Microsoft SCCM, and SCOM * Experience in using BMC Remedy for ticket queue maintenance and ticket tracking * Working knowledge of Exchange 2013 * JIRA Administration Requirements: Two out of the following three with willingness and ability to learn the third * Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems Administration * Knowledge of Red Hat Linux Administration * Knowledge of Cisco and Juniper Networking * Has an active DoD 8570 security certification and is in good standing (e.g., Security+, CASP, CISSP), or has ability to obtain certification prior to start date * Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) IT security requirements (STIGs, SRGs); Working knowledge of networking, STIG scanning tools, and prior experience in implementing security controls Qualifications Requires Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science or related field) or equivalent, and seven to nine years of related experience.
