What you'll be doing...

The Cary Network Operations Engineer will provide network event management support on next generation network platforms, supporting the various Enterprise, Private Data, and Telemetry IP networks.

  • Proactive network monitoring, following established procedures when responding to network alarms and events.

  • Perform triage and initial fault isolation, and providing technical assistance to external teams.

  • Trouble Ticket management, Outage flash management, processing escalations.

  • Communicate technical details and status to customer service centers, technical support organizations and executive management teams.

  • Strong IP/MPLS networking background and knowledge of various vendor platforms.

  • Development of effective automation solutions and leveraging virtualization to drive effective network management.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of IP telecommunication equipment and technologies (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel, ATM, Frame Relay) and processes and systems as well as department of company policies and procedures. Knowledge of routing protocols (MPLS, LDP, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF) and familiarity with concepts associated to cloud computing and virtualization.

  • Ability to Interface with Vendor, Engineering and Service Assurance teams to support the network, services and customers.

  • Responsible for the collection and submission of network and service management requirements to IT to support the deployment of new platforms and services.

  • Execute on policies and procedures in support of strategic objectives.

  • Technical expertise to give presentations to internal and external leaders on analytics that support new platforms, network health, products and services.

  • Highly technical skills in tools/applications relating to router access, scripting, log searching.

  • Adherence to tested Methods of Procedure for all Router maintenance work and also work with the router vendors to troubleshoot problems that fall outside maintenance.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree or four or more years of equivalent experience.

  • Five or more years of prior experience in a technical organization that support network operations, for Layer 0 /1/2/3 network that includes creation of processes and project management.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Capability to work with external and internal Verizon organizations coordinating and troubleshooting network events.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely and accurate network information to both management and other groups during network events and major outages.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

  • Experience scripting with Python, No-JS, Perl, or equivalent languages.

  • Experience and good understanding of the IT development processes for network and service management.

  • Experience Driving Automation Initiatives.

  • Experience with and knowledge of Cloud and Virtualized solutions (Openstack/VMWare).

Reporting to the Director of Field Operations, the Sr. Manager – Network Eng & Ops (Field Operations) is responsible for leading and managing a cross functional and converged team of approximately 6 Supervisors and 125-200 management and technicians, responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of Verizon's Local and Long Distance network infrastructure, customer premise equipment, and mechanical (power and HVAC) within geographic area. * Develop organizational capabilities to anticipate, plan and execute on network builds in geographic area to ensure achievement of associated performance and financial objectives: meeting schedule, cost, and scope; Manage and schedule multiple projects with highly aggressive timelines, balance workload across a large team * Build strong relationships with internal partners and external partners to ensure the highest level of success across all organizational objectives * Position requires 7x24 availability and to be actively involved in problem-solving. Must work cross-functionally internally and team with external organizations, outside contractors and technology vendors of equipment and supplies to achieve organizational success. * Establish and implement objectives and ensure that the organization meets specified company goals and key performance indicators * Responsible for all activities in geographic area impacting organizational personnel, including personnel decisions, administrative responsibilities, and relationship building with the union. * Will implement new practices to create efficiencies within the organization; communicates and translates functional/operational goals into team goals and manages implementation of policies and procedures. * Accountable for managing, developing leadership talent and recruiting a diverse technical organization What we're looking for...
