What you'll be doing...

The Cary and Ashburn Network Management Centers are seeking talented engineers to support management of Verizon's Intelligent Edge network encompassing Unified Transport, NGPON2, Multi-Service Edge, Base Network Controller and Converged Core technologies.

  • Proactive network monitoring following established procedures when responding to network alarms and events.

  • Perform triage and initial fault isolation and providing technical assistance to external teams.

  • Ticket management, event flash management, and processing escalations.

  • Communicate technical details and status to customer service centers, technical support organizations and executive management teams.

  • Strong IP/MPLS networking background and knowledge of various vendor platforms.

  • Development of effective automation solutions and leveraging virtualization to drive effective network management.

  • Ability to Interface with Vendor, Planning, Engineering and Service Assurance teams to support the network, services and customers.

  • Responsible for the collection and submission of network and service management requirements to IT to support the deployment of new platforms and services.

  • Execute on policies and procedures in support of strategic objectives.

  • Technical expertise to give presentations to internal and external leaders on analytics that support new platforms, network health, products and services.

  • Highly technical in tools and applications relating to router access, scripting, log searching.

  • Familiarity with and adherence to Verizon change management policies.

  • Adherence to tested Methods of Procedure for all Router maintenance work and also work with the router vendors to troubleshoot problems that fall outside maintenance.

  • The candidate will demonstrate:

  • A comprehensive knowledge of IP telecommunication equipment and technologies (Cisco, Juniper, Adtran, Calix) and processes and systems as well as department of company policies and procedures. Knowledge of routing protocols (MPLS, LDP, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF) and familiarity with concepts associated to cloud computing and virtualization.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of specialized telecommunications equipment (Ciena 6500T/S, & Cisco) and technologies. Knowledge of optical DWDM system & optical distribution network (GPON).

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.

  • Scripting with Python, No-JS, Perl, or equivalent languages.

  • Five or more years of prior experience in a technical organization that support network operations, for Layer 0/1/2/3 network that includes creation of processes and project management.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Capability to work with external and internal Verizon organizations coordinating and troubleshooting network events.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely and accurate network information to both management and other groups during network events and major outages.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

  • Willingness to work all shifts.

  • Experience and good understanding of the IT development processes for network and service management.

  • Experience driving automation initiatives with continual focus on process improvements.

  • Experience with and knowledge of Cloud and Virtualized solutions (OpenStack/VMWare).

VIEW JOBS 9/26/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-12-25T00:00 SUMMARY: The Network Operations Engineer ensures the stability and integrity of enterprise voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local- and wide area networks across the organizational and cloud services. In addition, the Network Engineer participates in installing, monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. The incumbent also analyzes and resolves network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provides end-user training. To be, the incumbent must have a strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware and be able to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network devices, including WAPs, firewalls, routers, switches, and controllers. A deep knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols is also needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Develop and maintain asset planning and management strategy for network design and operation. * Develop and implement network guidelines and performance standards for QoS, Security, and Network Monitoring. * Maintain and administer AWS Cloud Core, Distribution, and Customer Edge Devices which includes but is not limited to Cisco, Ruckus, Brocade, and planet layer 2 and layer 3 network devices. * Analyze complex technical problems across all technology layers for quick resolution using packet capture and other diagnostics tools. * Work with third-party carriers, vendors, and suppliers to resolve network issues and plan for growth. * Analyze current network performance and plan for future needs. * Support and administer firewall environments in line with security policy; identify and mitigate potential network vulnerability risks. * Work with Engineering department support teams to update policies and procedures relating to the upkeep and performance of all parts of the network, including hardware and software. * Work and collaborate with IT groups and business units in support of projects, application performance, and security compliance to build and deliver solutions. * Participate in on-call support for issues outside of regular business hours. * Facilitate internal meetings with managers and other team members, or meetings with vendors completing project activities, to review project status and implement changes as necessary. * Collect, draft, and deliver to management Event Analyses and/or Root Cause Analysis ("RCA") and RCA summations. * Document network processes, procedures, working instructions, work-flows, network topology data, and as-built data. OTHER: * Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: * None. ENVIRONMENT: Approximately 95% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. Approximately 5% travel may be required in support of the position's responsibilities.
