Drive the optimization of technology operations though system/services performance monitoring, data and analysis. Monitor operation to ensure established service level agreements/objectives (SLA/Os) are met. Collect data, analyze and report on performance, usage and trends within assigned portfolio. Synthesize findings to draw correlations between performance symptoms and existing or potential issues, identify exceptional conditions and opportunities for improvement. Escalate and document issues and events in accordance with established procedures and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Monitor ~~ Data Collection, Tracking & Analysis ~~ Reporting ~~ Alert & Document ~~ Continuous Improvement

  • Use technology monitoring tools to monitor assigned environments and/or technical assets and identify/detect performance and behavior outside of established standards or SLA/Os. Evaluate current and/or potential impact deviation may cause to infrastructure, delivery or services. Determine appropriate next steps (e.g. closer monitoring, further review or immediate action).

  • Use a variety of data collection techniques and systems to collect technology operations performance data as it relates to area of responsibility. Analyze to draw accurate conclusions regarding performance, trends and issues (current and/or potential). Monitor compliance with defined SLA/Os. Monitor consumption/usage metrics to understand trends to assist in the effective management of vendor partners (as applicable). Perform trend analysis to identify cause of performance and/or usage issues.

  • Collaborate with management and/or Process Owner to determine reporting to drive utilization, efficiency and effectiveness of technology systems and/or services. Make recommendations based on experience and expertise. Create reporting templates and dashboards to consistently and succinctly convey trends, consumption, and performance to leadership, business partners and other technology teams (as applicable). Effectively manage and prioritize ad hoc reporting needs and requests.

  • Alert appropriate team (per incident and event management processes) to provide warning/notification that a threshold has been reached, something has changed, or a failure has occurred. Document concerns and findings, collect all pertinent data (to include comparison of exception data and normal data) and ensure incident/event tracking tools are up-to-date (per established guidelines and procedures).

  • Use experience, expertise and data analysis to collaborate with manager and team members in the identification of corrective action to increase efficiency, improve performance and meet or exceed consumption targets. Support the implementation of improvement initiatives through the design, gathering, analysis and synthesis of applicable and meaningful data regarding the impact and status of improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent (4-years) in Computer Science, IT, MIS, Math or related field.

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience required.

  • 2-3+ years of experience in a technology operations organization.

  • 1+ years of experience pulling and analyzing data in support of a technology operations organization.

  • Expert-level skills managing and analyzing data in Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience and proficiency with entire Microsoft Office suite.

  • Shift is noon - 8:30 PM; must be flexible to work other hours as needed.

Oversee and execute monitoring of normal operation (performance, usage and trends) of assigned environments, technical assets and/or services to ensure established service level agreements (SLAs) are met. Design, implement and champion monitoring tools/reports to ensure thorough monitoring, identify exceptional conditions and recommend opportunities for improvement. Provide technical and procedural direction to more junior members of the team. Responsibilities Major Areas of Accountability: * Process Ownership, Championship & Improvement ~~ Service Design & Continuous Improvement ~~ Data Collection, Tracking & Reporting ~~ Monitor & Alert ~~ Leadership & Oversight ~~ Exception Management ~~ Documentation Management & Invoice Validation * With thorough understanding of technology assets/environments/services, business needs and SLAs, lead the creation, revision and implementation of monitoring tools, processes and reports. Regularly review and identify process improvement opportunities and implement changes in collaboration with process owner and other technology functions. Champion and provide oversight to ensure adherence to established processes, tools and methodologies. * Engage in establishment of environment and technical asset and service availability, reliability and maintainability requirements. Review physical and logical configuration plans and provide feedback to applicable technical operations/services team to address gaps or opportunities. Review availability information and identify developing issues and opportunities for improvement. Ensure effective hand-offs with appropriate technology function(s). Provide input into and drive availability improvement plans. * Lead (with Process Owner) the definition and creation of data collection/tracking tools and methods and standardized reports to understand and optimize technology systems and/or services. Execute and/or lead the use of a variety of techniques and systems to collect and understand performance data, design and implement reporting templates and dashboards to convey trends, consumption, and performance, and monitor compliance with SLAs. Identify potential cause and evaluate impact on infrastructure, delivery or services. Determine appropriate next steps (e.g. closer monitoring, further review or immediate action). Alert appropriate team (per process) when a threshold has been reached or a change/failure has occurred. Provide advice and guidance to others in monitoring and analysis of assets, systems and services. * Provide oversight, technical direction, and expertise to the operations support teams as it relates to data analysis, monitoring tools and processes, and event detection. Provide shift leadership (on a rotation basis) to support the service desk – staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – for event management, detection and incident escalation. Influence and lead cross-functional teams comprised of internal and vendor resources to champion processes and drive service improvement initiatives. * Provide oversight and serve as escalation point for approval on exceptions/emergency changes to established process and policy. Escalate for additional approval as required. Ensure that all pertinent process steps are completed. * Document concerns and findings, collecting all pertinent data (to include comparison of exception data and normal data). Ensure incident/event tracking tools are current (per established guidelines and procedures). Review, improve and champion the accuracy and maintenance of knowledge base content and known error database. May be responsible for or participate in ensuring operational charges align with budget and/or vendor contracts (e.g. monthly invoices). Required Qualifications * Bachelors degree or equivalent (4-years) in Computer Science, IT, MIS, Math or related field. * 5-7 years of relevant experience required. * 5+ years of technical operations/support experience with proven knowledge of - and experience working with - ITIL framework. * 3+ years of experience with event monitoring and/or incident/problem management, to include setting-up monitoring thresholds and views. * 5+ years of broad technical experience with proven expertise in a majority of the following areas: servers, networks, hardware, operating systems (Windows, UNIX, Solaris, Linux, AIX), virtualization software, middleware and related base build infrastructure and software. * Experience and subject matter expertise in the web and distributed computing environment, as well as mainframe experience.
