Job Goal/ Summary: To assist the Network Specialist (Network Administrator) in essential duties to ensure the stability and integrity of the corporate network environment by providing day-to-day support and maintenance of the corporate network and server infrastructure including but not limited to all servers and all platforms, Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.

Qualifications:

  • Must have an Associate's degree and three (3) year's in a computer related field

  • Valid driver's license, required

  • Cisco CCNA or Network+ Certification (preferred)

  • Cisco wired and wireless networking

  • Network Security (firewalls, antivirus, network access control, etc.)

  • DNS and DHCP server

  • experience

  • Strong Organizational Skills

  • Familiarity with Windows and Apple based products

  • Active Directory and Group Policy experience

Reports To: Coordinator of Technology

Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Configuring, installation, maintenance, and diagnostics of LAN/WAN networks (such as: routers, smart switches, and firewalls)

  • Assist in securing the district, schools and their resources against security threats including but not limited to cyberthreats, ransomware, malware, phishing, etc.

  • Understand and have expertise in network switching/routing and TCP/IP

  • Palo Alto Network maintenance and upgrades

  • Virtualization technologies VMware ESXi, vCenter/vSphere, Horizon View and Veeam

  • VoIP telephone configuring, installation, maintenance and diagnostics

  • Ability to work with network storage in various forms including SAN and NAS

  • Assisting with servers and network appliances and their associated backups

  • Printers, copiers, print servers

  • In depth knowledge of Windows client systems

  • Windows scripting (Batch Files, vbscript, powershell)

  • Ability to work with Windows Active Directory and Group Policy

  • Document troubleshooting and resolution actions

  • Desire to research and train for new technologies

  • Ability to work effectively and positively with others

  • Ability to lift and install network/computer equipment that sometimes exceeds 50lbs

  • This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.

  • Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment: 240 days (full year)

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.
