What you'll be doing...

As a Network Implementation Engineer at Verizon, you will be deploying the next generation of routing and switching gear while maintaining our current world class infrastructure to ensure the highest availability. You will be implementing and maintaining network devices at Edge locations i.e. Headquarters (HQ), Retail Stores, Call Centers, Dispatch, Garages, Central Offices, and People Center locations. Your role will be pivotal to Verizon as the work you do enables our employees to service our customers and drive revenue!

  • Configure, support, and maintain network routers, switches and other network technologies.

  • Build valid configurations for implementation based upon design and/or technical concepts.

  • Follow standard operating procedures for new configurations and change.

  • Collaborate with Network Architecture team to develop a plan to lifecycle Network incorporating Standardize Designs, Technical Roadmaps.

  • Ensure configuration and feature consistency is maintained across the network infrastructure.

  • Provide 3rd Tier Troubleshooting and problem solving for network issues.

  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of network documentation as it relates to the standardize network topology, equipment, operational support and configuration.

  • Interact and coordinate with project managers, end user support, site support, vendors, consultants, planning and engineering in order to implement network solutions.

  • Perform network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation.

  • Participate in internal training and be receptive to technical guidance to enhance proficiencies.

  • Implement operational efficiencies by utilizing networking tools to automate routine implementation.

  • Work hands-on with both internal teams and external vendors, carriers, clients, to add or modify network connectivity and when necessary, troubleshoot and identify sources of problems and bring issues to resolution.

You Will Need To Have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even Better If You Have:

  • Five years of more of experience in a hands-on network role with a focus on Cisco technology.

  • Knowledge of an Edge Network incl. Cisco Routers/Switches, SD-WAN, Whitebox Technology (non-vender specific). Other areas of focus will be WLAN (Aruba), Monitoring Tools, Automation, Ansible, HPNA.

  • Cisco CCNA certification in Routing / Switching or Datacenter or equivalent experience.

  • CCNP certification.

  • Experience working in large cross-functional or enterprise-wide project teams.

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office product suite and/or G Suite.

  • Strong understanding/troubleshooting skills and effective troubleshooting methods including: Layer 1 (e.g., Copper cabling troubles / fiber signal strength, cabling standards), Layer 2 (e.g., Spanning-tree, VLAN tagging, MAC address tracing, ARP issues, vPC), Layer 3 (e.g., Routing troubleshooting, BGP attributes, prefix length issues), Layer 4 (e.g., Load balancer and Firewall troubleshooting; BGP session troubleshooting), Layer 5 thru 7 (e.g., DNS issues; assisting with identifying application issues masquerading as a network issue).

  • Experience in support and implementation of IPv4 and IPv6.

  • Packet capture and analysis experience (Sniffer, Wireshark, etc.).

  • Experience with circuit troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of Verizon Wireline and Wireless business.

  • Experience with Whitebox, SD-WAN Technology.

  • Ability to script in Python, Perl, or a Linux shell.

  • Experience using JIRA, Confluence, or other project tracking tools.

  • Travel as required.

You will be part of the fiber access engineering solutions team responsible for developing engineering solutions which will positively impact efficiency and acceleration of the critical One Fiber/ODN and iEN programs. What we're looking for... Even better if you have: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field. * Ten or more years in Network Engineering, access /transport implementation/network creation, operations or planning. * Five or more years of planning and/or designing telecommunications networks. (CAD, IDDS/ICGS, FIM, 3GIS). * ESRI or equivalent geospatial design environment experience, certifications, etc. * PMP certification. * SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) certifications. * Experience in one or more ISP (inside plant) /OSP (outside plant) network engineering disciplines including, but not limited to: IOF, Access, and Data. * Leadership experience of cross functional teams. * Capability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, ever changing environment. * Ability to be a highly technical & strategic thought leader as well as a "hands on" implementer * Ability to work independently with minimal direction. * Ability to coordinate multiple initiatives with competing objectives. * Experience with Engineering Inventory & Provisioning systems. * Experience creating Process documentation (M&P) and Process flows. * Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio or iGrafx or other business process mapping tools. * Knowledge of relational databases. * Experience in an Agile Environment with an understanding of roles. * Experience creating UAT test plan & scripts. * Experience with ODN/FTTP design engineering systems and processes – including MxU design. * Mobile application development and implementation.
