Department Network Infrastructure Job Purpose
The Network Engineer position leads the evaluation, design, implementation, management and support of solutions related to the campus IP data networks, Internet and WAN. Responsible for all network hardware and software components, network management, bandwidth management and support of network servers used to provide services such as DNS and DHCP. Provide technical expertise in the establishment and standardization of network protocols, network servers, network hardware and software, network policies, usage guidelines and security.
Essential Duties
Perform daily network management and network health functions including performance monitoring, performance tuning, and problem reporting to the Technology Support Center
Provide technical expertise for the development of a network infrastructure including a large wireless environment
Leads the design and administration of network routing infrastructure, segmentation strategies, load balancer configurations, firewall systems, virtual private network access, and network border connectivity
Provide expertise in the engineering of the network infrastructure in accordance with current best practices and standards
Perform system administration for the network servers used to provide services such as DNS, DHCP, network authentication, firewalls, etc.
Provide technical expertise to assist in the establishment and maintenance of network engineering standards, procedures and documentation
Lead the selection of vendors and suppliers for network hardware, software and services
Lead long term planning regarding new technologies related to the campus data networks
Lead the deployment and management of all on and off-premise network infrastructure
Participate in the off-hours on-call support rotation
Serve as an escalation point for technical issues
Additional Skills Required
Excellent troubleshooting and creative problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Disciplined in good engineering practices (e.g. network diagrams, documentation, information sharing)
Experience with configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco network equipment including VoIP components
Strong project management, time management and organizational skills
Ability to effectively work in a team environment as well as independently
Must have excellent customer service skills
Demonstrates hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and analytics tools such as: Cisco ISE, DNA Center

Preferred Skills and Certs: ISE Management, Cisco WLC and wireless fundamental concepts
Minimum Education Requirements
Associates degree and previous working experience as a Network Engineer role for at least 5 years OR Bachelor's degree and previous working experience as a Network Engineer role for at least 3 years
Advanced training in data communications, network design, network protocols, Linux/UNIX, and wireless technologies required
