Manage and maintain the design and equipment (such as hubs, routers, servers, etc.) that constitutes the information infrastructure of Petco. Research and implement new technologies into the Petco Data Network that will increase the productivity of Petco employee's. Supervise the Network Engineering staff, while coordinating technology changes and training with the Network Support Center.
The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Establish performance baselines and thresholds for servers, hubs, switches, and routers.
Measure bandwidth requirements and perform trend analysis.
Create and maintain technical diagrams of the LAN/WAN architecture.
Upgrade, replace and install new servers and server components. Install software service packs and updates to all Intel x86-based servers.
Configure and install Netware and Windows NT servers.
Administer DNS, DHCP, WINS and DC servers.
Administer and maintain Novell File and Print servers running Netware 4.11 and Netware 5.0.
Design structure of additional file servers as Petco grows beyond the capacity that exists today.
Implement configuration changes to network hardware.
Maintain TCP/IP configurations throughout the Petco LAN/WAN.
Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot application servers such as Exchange and SQL

The primary work environment will be shared between a cubicle and the computer room. The majority of duties will be performed while seated indoors. This position does require the carrying and moving of heavy equipment such as servers (50+ lbs). Some travel will be required via automobile or plane and may include trips to Distribution Centers, training courses, and professional conferences/conventions.
Four-year degree, with a major in Computer Science or Information Systems in addition to a certification by one of the major network operating system vendors and certification by a major router manufacturer (such as Cisco or 3-Com) are required. Preferred education would include an MCSE or CNE certification from Microsoft or Novell and the Cisco CCIE certification along with a graduate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
Minimum 4 years experience managing a large and complex WAN utilizing multiple networking protocols. Prefer experience administering or engineering a LAN with 375+ nodes including 1-2 years working with Cisco Routers.
This position require the following unique abilities:
In-depth understanding of the function and architecture of multiple NOS's including Netware, Windows NT and Unix (preferred).
Logical problem solving.
Able to work under tight time constraints.
Understand the function of and be able to use TCP/IP tools such as ping, telnet, nslookup, netstat, nbtstat, etc...
Knowledge of network routing and switching fundamentals.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
In-depth knowledge of server hardware components, configuration and firmware upgrades.
Ability to deliver written and oral reports to senior management.
