The Defense group supports the Department of Defense (DoD) mission to keep our homeland and its citizens safe. We provide solutions to improve the Nation's defense by providing software, systems engineering, IT, training and logistics and fleet management solutions.

Responsibilities

The Network Engineer must be local to the Montgomery, AL area. Hold a current/active DoD Secret clearance and related certifications outlined in the qualifications.

  • Provides ongoing network support, addresses availability issues, overcomes performance problems and provides overall level 2 support.

  • Designs, installs, maintains and coordinates the use of network systems. Evaluates hardware and software and peripheral equipment for large, complex networks.

  • Manages network performance, diagnoses performance problems and undertakes tuning activities to ensure network performance meets SLA requirements.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems to ensure quality transmission service on the network.

  • Reports on overall network performance including frequent problems, underlying issues and plans to improve network availability, performance and problem resolution.

  • Trains users, maintains, creates and deletes user accounts.

  • Maintains and updates system security plans on all platforms.

  • Implements and coordinates network policies, procedures and standards. Enforces network security procedures.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Strong understanding of LAN/WAN infrastructure including planning, testing, installation, support, and maintenance.

  • Must have extensive experience operating Cisco routers and switches, TCP/IP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, VPN, VoIP, firewall, VSAT and structured cabling

  • Bachelor's (or equivalent) with 5 - 7 yrs of experience, or a Master's and 3 to 5 yrs of experience
    4+ years of experience in a network technician or helpdesk environment.

  • Highly desired Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and/or Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) IT Project Manager (CompTIA Project+) CompTIA Security+ .

  • Desired routing protocol experience

  • Desired Riverbed Aternity experience

Years of experience may substitute for formal education/degree.

The successful applicant will serve in a lead capacity on the design, installation, and maintenance of mission critical, highly-resilient network infrastructure, including all wired network switches, access points and controllers, core routers, service provider up links, next generation wireless platform, load balances, firewalls, vpn and security systems, and related central network services including DNS/DHCP/IPA. This position will provide installation, configuration and operational support for these systems as well as capacity planning, change control, inventory control and monitoring functions. Duties and Responsibilities: * Configure, install and support network infrastructures and software * Test and evaluate network systems * Analyze network related problems and recommend solutions * Deploy and operate ubiquitous wireless network architecture to support the access needs of the University * Manage and maintain network security policies for student network * Consult with University support personnel, faculty, and staff to assess future wireless needs and diagnose problems * Advise campus units on current and best practices for wireless technology use on the enterprise and in support of the academic mission of the University * Advise management on emerging technologies for support to the students in and outside of the classroom * Provide integration support for the wired and wireless networks * Maintain a high level of expertise in emerging network security technologies and attends relevant professional conferences and standards forums * Supervise student workers * Maintain call tracking system using Service Desk software; Log individual request and build on-line knowledge database; keep user inform users of status of open calls; follow-up and ensure open tickets are resolved/close Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree, and 4 years of related experience to include in-dept knowledge of network architectures, topologies and protocols, knowledge C, Perl, shell scripting, SNMP, DHCP, DNS/BIND and UNIX are required.
