Information Technology Services is a team of dedicated professionals providing core technology and cybersecurity services to agencies statewide, enabling state employees to serve Idaho's citizens.

Information Technology Services (ITS), currently has an opening for an Infrastructure Engineer Level III position located in Boise. This position provides critical network engineering and support services across a broad range of enterprise class networks serving a multitude of state agencies.

The selected individual must possess an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of advanced network technologies and operating practices in order to manage and maintain 24/7/365 Network operations. This position will administer advanced Network management systems, manage network performance, troubleshoot network problems and coordinate and implement expanded, new, and upgraded networks across the State.

Example of Duties

  • Provides hands-on support and management of statewide Network operations to deliver mission critical Network services to a diverse customer base on a 24/7/365 basis;
  • Provides direct customer support for problem resolution and escalation;
  • Supports Network Operations on a 24/7/365 basis that may include: deployments, infrastructure upgrades, hardware rollouts, troubleshooting, administration, and other related Network operation functions;
  • Configures, upgrades, installs, troubleshoots, and manages network switches, routers, optical multiplexing devices, wireless controllers and access points and other associated network devices;
  • Configures, upgrades, installs and manages advanced network diagnostic, configuration and management tools and systems;
  • Manages and maintains detailed network documentation;
  • Manages VoIP gateway and SIP services and supporting infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of current information technology trends and capabilities.

Experience planning, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting network, server or storage systems; resolving network or server problems; working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for user computing needs in a business environment.

Experience as a technical lead implementing or supporting network, server or storage systems.

Supplemental Information

The ideal candidate would have the following interpersonal and technical skills:

  • Ability to work in a non-partisan manner when working in political environments or when involved in political activities;
  • Ability to work as part of an on-call, 24/7 shift rotation schedule;
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and work to tight timelines;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher certification;
  • 5 years of experience configuring Cisco routing and switching equipment in LAN, WAN and MAN environment;
  • Experience with network design and management in a datacenter environment;
  • Experience with Cisco IOS, IOS-XE;
  • Experience with setup and configuration of Cisco wireless controllers and access points;
  • Good knowledge of Ethernet and TDM transport over fiber and copper;
  • Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols including but not limited to MPLS, OSPF, BGP, spanning tree, VRRP and HSRP;
  • Cabling experience in Telco or data center environment;
  • Experience developing and maintaining network document with a minimum of 2 years of experience with Microsoft Visio;
  • Experience with Juniper routing and switching equipment is desirable;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with both customers and team members;
  • Travel throughout the State is occasionally required;
