Range: $65,00- $90,000 salary based on experience
Position Summary: A talented, passionate individual with the skill and desire to contribute to an outstanding IT team. This position provides technical experience as part of a team that proactively monitors, maintains and grows the technical infrastructure that supports the daily operations of the University. The Network Engineer reports to the Director of Network Services and Information Security.
General Purpose: The Network Engineer exists to provide technical experience and participate in the day-to-day implementation, administration and maintenance of the Universitys data transmission infrastructure. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and managing the local and wide area networks of the University.
Remote Workdays: This is a hybrid position and it is eligible for remote workdays.
Position Responsibilities:
Install, upgrade and maintain network-related systems including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure
System administration of server environments associated with the operation of the data and/or telephony networks including performance monitoring and proactive problem reporting
Configure network-related systems for optimum performance, efficiency, security and availability
Determine requirements for network infrastructure change and growth
Interface with equipment vendors to identify equipment that meets or exceeds requirements
Direct contractors and internal resources involved in network installation
Interface with ISPs to troubleshoot routing, stability, performance or other issues
Implement system upgrades and patches
Automate administration tasks through scripting
Assist in the maintenance of data center infrastructure
Recommend related policies and procedures
Participate in a 24x7 on-call system administrator rotation
Leverage experience and judgment to accomplish goals with a moderate degree of supervision; exercises some independent decision making as appropriate
Assist with other projects, administrative duties, and initiatives as assigned

Essential Skills:
Strong working knowledge of networking technologies, topologies and protocols including BGP, OSPF, CAPWAP, Ethernet, link aggregation, virtual chassis
Understanding of operating systems, server and storage hardware infrastructure
Moderate knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating system administration

Seven years of network administration or equivalent education
Administration of a variety of wired and wireless network platforms in a production environment
Demonstrated use of scripting language native to platform
Experience with the design of campus networking for performance and availability
Preferred Experience:
More than ten years of network administration
Deep working knowledge of Cisco Wireless Controller and Juniper switch/router platforms
WiFi network design and troubleshooting
Independent network administration of moderate-scale wired and wireless data networks in a 24x7production environment
Demonstrated use of scripting language for automation or configuration
management
