POSITION TITLE: NETWORK ENGINEER
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Network engineer is responsible for the network design implementation. This role will provide network design, hardware and software support and will manage network projects and support the network.
This is a re-advertisement. Previous applicants will still be considered and do not need to reapply.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage large/complex network installations including requesting information, evaluating proposals,
recommending solutions, overseeing work of others, verifying correct installation, and coordinating with
other departments in a highly complex, multi-vendor, and multi-protocol network environment.
Plan, design, maintain, and implement network architecture, access, security, and services. Recommend
guidelines and policies as appropriate.
Initiate network projects including developing and documenting technical network designs and project
plans and procuring equipment and supplies.
Monitor network for stability and proper configuration.
Develop products internally in accordance with requirements of performance, suitability, maintainability,
cost, interoperability, flexibility, and conformance to standards.
Provide support to other consultants in area of technical expertise.
Provide leadership and training to lower level network specialists.
Act as final escalation point for network systems.
Identify chronic network problems. Perform root cause analysis and develop resolutions.
Investigate, evaluate and test new equipment and research new technologies for potential deployment.
Maintain the security of the network infrastructure and recommend network improvements.
Apply communication skills and ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate.
Apply knowledge of multiple network protocols and technologies.
Integrate advanced technologies developed in other departments into the districts network environment.
Lead technical project teams to ensure timely completion and satisfaction of reliability and performance
requirements.
Formulate long-term network plans.
Proactively participate in Change Management and the Change Advisory Board.
Other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial and legal requirements
Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.
Strong Project Management & Leadership skills.
Self-starter with strong work ethic and ability to provide strategic direction to a team.
Demonstrated ability to motivate people and creativity.
Demonstrated planning and project management processes.
ITIL certification. PMP or comparable certification.
Knowledge/management of IT Service Management systems.
Knowledge/management of Device Management systems.
Knowledge/management of Unified Communication systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and six (6) years of experience in network administration and design.
Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
