The Opportunity

The Network Director of Special Education at Harlem Village Academies is a network based role that is responsible for the management of Special Education across the organization. This position requires a high level of organization and advocacy skills, and the true belief that all students can excel academically, including students with academic, social and emotional challenges. The Director of Special Education is the owner of all special education processes across the network and must champion special education to all parties. The ideal candidate is passionate about students and ensuring that all students have access to the support that they need to be successful.

Goals

  • 95% of students with IEPs meet HVA end of year benchmarks for ELA and math
  • 80% of students that are referred for initial evaluations, qualify for academic services

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate current Special Education Systems and create the most effective systems to be codified across HVA

  • Manage all SpEd Coordinators across the organization, providing feedback on performance with a focus on development

  • Develop a scope and sequence of training (PLs) for SpEd Coordinators and teachers to meet the needs of student resulting in increased academic achievement

  • Evaluate instructional practices and diagnose trends. Roll out and train teachers on best practices to meet the needs of all students.

  • Train the school community in Special Education systems and requirements (Ex: Intervention, Progress Monitoring and Reporting, Accommodations Implementation)

  • Create education plans that lead students to achieve their EOY goals in partnership with school leaders, special education coordinators, teachers, and families.

  • Provide data analysis and trend reporting regarding student academic progress and the landscape of Special Education within your school building. Use that data to inform special education decision making.

  • Work collaboratively with the school leadership teams to guide strategic decision making for students with disabilities.

  • Aggressively manage the end to end IEP process to ensure that all students obtain services expediently.

  • Provide case management and support for all students with Individualized Education Plans and 504 Plans.

  • Ensure all testing requirements and accommodations for students with Special Education are implemented with fidelity.

  • Ensure that all Special Education laws and regulations are met.

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of Special Education experience in a K-12 setting with 4+ years of experience coaching teachers and adult management experience

  • A strong sense of advocacy and dedication to student achievement

  • A commitment to students with diverse learning needs

  • A high level of personal and professional organization

  • Are able to implement feedback quickly and effectively

  • Personal integrity and perseverance

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000, and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final salary may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications. HVA is committed to providing our team with a range of benefit offerings at a competitive value.
