We are seeking motivated and skilled Architect to join our Network team as we advance our goal of bringing HPC (High Performance Computing) to the world. The ideal candidates will have strong technical and interpersonal skills, a deep set of hands-on experiences with large scale HPC networks, public and private cloud platforms, and mission-critical production workloads, a passion for network-related, full-stack automation, development, and operational technologies, and an interest in the world of HPC.

Responsibilities

  • Influence the strategic direction of our network product development

  • Discuss network opportunities with key customers and translate into engineering requirements and architecture

  • Contribute learnings to the larger community via written guidance and presentations

  • Mentorship and development of team technical delivery personnel

  • Contribute to the broader Cray R&D leadership community

Requirements Qualifications

  • A sound track-record of shipping products in multiple delivery environments including SaaS and integrated hardware.

  • Passion to drive the next-generation network of High Performance Computing

  • Experience driving and guiding software development of network software

  • Demonstrating thought leadership in network management in a full CI/CD pipeline

  • Demonstrating profound experience in Agile methodologies, both in practice and in coaching/mentoring/teaching others

  • Hands-on experience supporting a live, mission-critical (24x7x365) platform as part of a devops organization.

  • 12+ years' overall product development experience

  • 8+ years architecting, designing, and developing network software

  • Providing expertise and leadership in security in the cloud space

  • Experience shipping products used on Cloud-scale platforms, or delivered in large-scale configurations

  • Experience with Public/Private Key Infrastruture in Production, and Certificate Management

  • Experience with Network Security, IpSec, MacSec, encryption, white sourcing, port scanning, Security Compliance, hardware security

  • Experience in architecting distributed software systems comprising multiple large scale data streams (e.g. Micro-services, distributed Key-Value stores, NoSql, or RabbitMQ, etc)

  • Experience in Network Operations deploying or managing security policy

  • Experience in Network Operations monitoring and diagnosing security threats and mitigating

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related software engineering field; MS preferred.

  • Comfortable talking about technical things with business people and business things with technical people. Able to express complex concepts in plain language to reach broader audiences

  • Experience in automating large-scale deployments with modern tools (Ansible, etc.).

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and organization

  • Network protocols: Ethernet, LLDP, LACP, ARP, DNS, DHCP, TCP/UDP/IP, VLAN, etc.

  • Troubleshooting skills from Layer 2 to Layer 7

  • Virtualization, cloud technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Istio

The SDN Planning group under Verizon Network Technology and Planning organization is looking for a self-motivated and innovative thinking engineer in support of Verizon SDN architecture and technology development and deployment. As a senior level member of technical staff, you will be interacting with software engineers, network/system operations staff, network/system architects and vendor partners to provide SDN technology evolution strategies and solutions to keep our service relevance in the market place in the fast moving and quickly evolving networking industry. Proactive technology research, industry trend analysis, and developing next generation network architecture using modern networking technology (e.g., Software Defined Networking) and providing production deployable solutions are key functions of the team. Additional responsibilities will also include: * New technology validation and prototyping. * Software Defined Networking (SDN) ecosystem development and vendor management. * SDN/NFV platform architecture and development. * Open API (REST/RESTCONF/NETCONF) and data modeling (YANG) verification and development. * Linux (KVM, OpenStack, RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) application deployment and Linux networking lab infrastructure support. * Network platform architecture & design (scale, federation, & redundancy), software platform specification, systems integration, platform lifecycle management. * Participate in open source and open standard industry activities. What we're looking for... You'll need to have: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or relevant engineering discipline or four or more years of work experience. * Six or more years of relevant work experience. * Network platform architecture & design. * Vendor technical management experience. Even better if you have: * Master's degree in Computer Science or related field with modern data communication technology discipline. * Six or more years of hands-on data networking experience (LAN/WAN and Layer 2/Layer 3) in a service provider network or large enterprise network environment. * Strong Layer 2/Layer 3 network architectural design and engineering experience. * Strong network operational troubleshooting and network monitoring/analysis experience. Experience working on Linux environments with UNIX scripting and/or software development experience. New technology validation and prototyping experience. * Multi-vendor system integration experience. * Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning new technologies with minimal oversight. * Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal/written) skills. * Experience with Linux virtualization environments and technologies (KVM, OVS, LXC, etc.) * Open API (REST/RESTCONF/NETCONF) and data modeling (YANG) verification and development. * NFV and/or cloud computing experience. * OpenFlow knowledge and experience. * ODL knowledge and experience. * Knowledge of SDN architecture and technology (control plane, data plane, management plane, orchestration, etc.) * Open Source tools development, implementation, and collaboration experience. * SDN/NFV driven open source project and open standard experience (OpenStack, ODL, ONL, ONOS, etc.). * Policy driven network design. * Knowledge of optical network technologies. * Industry technology leadership skills. * Network or system software development experience.
