Job purpose

The Network and Systems Administrator position is an integral member of the IT Team. This position actively contributes to the development and implementation of IT solutions aimed at optimizing business operations. The Network and Systems Administrator has independent responsibility for a wide array of daily IT tasks and projects, while collaborating with a team of IT professionals. This position reports to the IT Manager. This position serves internal customers/employees, and a customer service mindset and team approach are essential for success.

Duties and responsibilities:

1.Maintaining Computer Networks and Systems

a. Hardware Management:

• Maintaining and configuring network hardware, including wireless systems, switches, firewalls, virtual/SAN infrastructure, and servers, ensuring that these devices are functioning optimally.

• Support and maintenance of VoIP and security camera systems.

• Create and update comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, policies, and procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficiency and consistency.

b. Software Maintenance:

• Installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems on servers.

• Manage Office 365, including SharePoint, to ensure efficient collaboration and document management within the organization.

• Administer Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy Objects (GPO) to maintain a secure and efficient network infrastructure.

• Monitoring system logs for errors and addressing them promptly.

• Create and update comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, policies, and procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficiency and consistency.

c. Database Management:

• Administering and maintaining SQL databases.

• Backing up and restoring databases to prevent data loss.

• Ensuring data integrity and security.

d. ERP System, Reporting, and EDI Management (Epicor Prophet 21):

• Assist in maintaining, updating, and ensuring optimal performance of the organization's ERP system.

• Assist in the support of reporting (SQL Server Reporting Services) and data analytics tools (Phocas EDA).

• Manage Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems that allow for the secure exchange of data between systems.

2.Monitoring and Improving Network Performance

a. Performance Monitoring:

• Utilize network monitoring tools to track network performance metrics or other issues affecting network efficiency.

b. Capacity Planning:

• Estimating future network requirements based on growth projections and business needs, scaling network resources accordingly.

c. Security Enhancements:

• Implementing security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption.

3.Providing User Support

a. Help Desk Support:

• Provide elevated-tier support, offering expert assistance to resolve complex IT issues.

• Assisting end-users with network-related problems, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and resolving technical questions and needs.

• Documenting support requests and solutions thoroughly.

b. User Training:

• Educating employees on network best practices, security protocols, and efficient use of network resources, conducting training sessions and creating knowledgebase articles.

Working conditions:

• Occasionally be available outside of normal business hours as a point of contact for IT-related emergencies and urgent matters via cell phone

• After hours work as required to avoid disruption to the business

• Occasional travel to branch locations, industry meetings, conferences, etc.

• Hybrid work environment; 3 days in office, 2 days remote after 90 days

$85,000-$90,000 (base pay plus bonus program)

Requirements

Education, Experience and Skills:

a. Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in information technology and minimum 4 years of experience in network and systems administration or associate's degree in information technology and minimum 6 years of experience in network and systems administration or 8 years of experience in network and systems administration.

b. Additional Experience

• Scripting and Automation

• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to automate routine tasks.

• Cloud Knowledge

• Understanding of cloud services and their integration with on-premises networks.

c. Certifications

• Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.

d. Physical Requirements

• Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Also, must be able to regularly lift IT equipment such as monitors and printers up to fifty pounds. Equipment that is greater than fifty pounds, must safely involve others to assist.
