The Network Analyst I is responsible for playing a fundamental role in supporting cybersecurity assessments for organizations. This role is vital in helping assess and enhance the security of critical network infrastructure.

Work involves the design and implementation of network control mechanisms that serve to control users' access to computer networks through such processes as firewalls. The Network Analyst I play a pivotal role in supporting the organization's cybersecurity efforts by actively participating in security assessments, monitoring network security, and implementing security measures to protect the network infrastructure from potential threats. Conducts Defensive Cyberspace operations to support mission requirements as directed by The Adjutant General or Governor.

NCNG's cyber team provides continuous cyber support to the State's critical infrastructure, networks, and data from cyber threats by providing responsive and effective cybersecurity capabilities. NCNG partners with State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial organizations to provide proactive and reactive assistance to ensure critical assets are protected and secured against malicious actors.?NCNG's cyber team provides superior cyber defense and security capabilities in?order?to protect our nation's critical infrastructure and assets. NCNG will leverage?the team's expertise, agility, and readiness to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber?threats in support of federal agencies and our country's cybersecurity posture.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is DT07.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.

 If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Dept. of Public Safety (DPS):

The mission of DPS is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through prevention, protection, and preparation with integrity and honor.  Included in this department are Alcohol Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Information Network, Emergency Management, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, NC National Guard, NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency, Samarcand Training Academy, State Capitol Police, and State Highway Patrol.

 Also included are these Boards and Commissions: ABC Commission, Governor's Crime Commission, Private Protective Services Commission, and Boxing & Combat Sports Commission.  DPS is comprised of approximately 6,000 permanent positions and nearly 13,000 NC National Guard temporary positions.The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position.  We will not review resumes in lieu of Experience and Education listed on the application.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Working knowledge of fundamental security concepts like confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA triad) as well as defense-in-depth strategies.

  • Experience with network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and network architecture to identify security risks within the infrastructure.

  • Working Knowledge of common network security threats (such as DDoS attacks, phishing, malware) and vulnerabilities in network infrastructure (e.g., misconfigurations, weak authentication mechanisms).

  • Experience performing vulnerability assessments and scans to identify weaknesses within the network infrastructure and systems.

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution.

or

Associate's degree in computer science, or a related technical field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of networking related experience.

or

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of networking related experience.

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other necessary requirements:

Per 5 CFR 731, upon appointment, applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment.
