NextGen Federal Systems is seeking an experienced Network Administrator to support the family of GCCS equipment for a Department of Defense customer.

Location: Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA


  • Provide technical and administrative support to GCCS equipment including remote and on-site systems administration, systems engineering and database administration

  • Perform verification of compatibility and interoperability of system changes through operational testing and evaluation

  • Perform transitioning and migration to new system releases (major and minor version upgrades, patches, and service packs)

  • Provide feedback and support to GCCS developers when required

  • Provide system administration related support for GCCS-J COP, GCCS-AF DCAPES, GCCS-AF LOGFAC, and other databases, management structures, and security functional areas

  • Perform maintenance IAW Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommendations

  • Perform system/application/patch installation and configuration, system services, and maintenance (e.g. document loading process, issues/resolutions of new software/segment, test software in test suites before releasing for live operations)

  • Monitor system performance and provide in writing any noted software/firmware deficiencies and their impact on operations and security

  • Identify and recommend any changes that can maximize network efficiency and terminal response times, to include any script changes that will improve user interfaces and the daily operations of the LAN


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related engineering, computer science, information systems, or technical field OR seven (7) years on the job experience, of which two (2) years must be related to C4 programs and related certifications (e.g. CompTIA Network+ or Cisco Certified Network Professional) can be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree

  • DoD 8570.01-IAT Level II certification

  • Five years of experience providing information systems administration support, of which two (2) years of experience providing technical expertise and support for C4 programs

  • Minimum of four years of experience (or two years of technical training plus two years' experience) providing maintenance, technical, logistics, and life cycle support to network hardware

  • Possesses an in-depth knowledge of software/hardware configuration, system administration of computers using UNIX/Windows operating systems, and Oracle databases, network services and components, network management tools, Virtualization tools, and system security

  • Demonstrated proficiency maintaining and operating the following systems and platforms: SolarWinds suite of tools, Oracle, UNIX, Microsoft suite of tools, Microsoft OS (i.e. Server 2019 and any subsequent version), System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), NIS+, ACAS, VMWare, NetApp, SPLUNK and Red Hat

  • Demonstrated proficiency maintaining and operating the following server environments and functions: Active Directory, Domain Controller, Domain Name Server and Backup Exec

  • Demonstrated expertise with Network Infrastructure to include Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA), Firewall, Router, Switches, VLAN, TACLANE, IAVA Patching/Upgrade, Documentation and SOP, Failover/Coop

  • Active Secret level security clearance

Additionally, the Network Administrator will maintain network encryption devices; perform internal network management, monitoring, fault notification and management; DNS/DHCP administration; install and administer wireless network devices. More specific areas of support are identified below:</p><ul><li><p>Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) Infrastructure</p></li><li><p>Upgrade, integrate, install, configure, test, maintain, dismantle and turn in data and video communication networks-both hardware and software. Required communication capability includes the understanding of the interconnectivity of wireless, fiber optics, coaxial and copper (twisted pair) broadband and baseband.</p></li><li><p>Follow applicable environmental energy efficiency guidelines when purchasing new hardware or electronic equipment.</p></li><li><p>Network Infrastructure Support</p></li></ul><ul><li>Provide network infrastructure support (technical control) including, but not limited to:</li></ul><ul><li><p>Point-to-point installs and maintenance.</p></li><li><p>Long-haul circuit management and operations.</p></li><li><p>Loading circuit encryption equipment.</p></li><li><p>Infrastructure network equipment.</p></li><li><p>Installation, repair and management of network infrastructure.</p></li><li><p>Net Integration</p></li><li><p>Operate, maintain and configure voice, data and video routers, hubs, switches, ITNs and bridges to interface with commercial, DoD and coalition networks.</p></li><li><p>Control and configures internal routers/switches and network infrastructure devices.</p></li><li><p>Net Encryption</p></li><li><p>Operate and configure point-to-point, VPN and bulk encryption for network and long haul circuits.</p></li><li><p>Provide encryption to the base campus SIPRNet connectivity, i.e., TACLANEs.</p></li><li><p>Net Architecture/Configuration Management</p></li><li><p>Maintain and administer network (voice, video and data) management, planning and circuit databases, records and forms.</p></li><li><p>Interpret sketches and layout drawings for placement of distribution systems.</p></li><li><p>Review, recommend and implement changes to Communications-Computer Systems Installations Records (CSIR), technical data, engineering drawings and equipment wiring diagrams.</p></li><li><p>Review and maintains operational measurement reports and analyzes network utilization.</p></li><li><p>Ensure equipment and components meet installation practice technical order and accepted commercial installation specifications.</p></li><li><p>Perform active network monitoring.</p></li><li><p>Communications-Computer Systems Control (Tech Control)</p></li><li><p>Operate, monitor, secure and control the physical, data link, network and transport layers of Communications-Computer Systems (C-CS).</p></li><li><p>Perform, coordinate and supervise design, configuration, operation, restoration and improvements.</p></li><li><p>Analyze capabilities and performance, identify problems, take corrective action, operate cryptographic equipment and fabricates cable assemblies.</p></li><li><p>Perform C-CS control facility quality assurance evaluations.</p></li><li><p>Direct and make operational adjustments to C-CS equipment.</p></li><li><p>Ensure links support the transmission of data, for example;
