Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in the administration of network infrastructure, VoIP and related systems throughout the County; performs related work as assigned.
Please note:Presently, this position is up to 75% remote work and 25% minimum in office time. When working remotely, 1.5 hour response time is required for urgent IT matters and is subject to change at any time.
Typical Duties
(Illustrative Only)
Administers, coordinates, and monitors the installation and day-to-day operation of a broad range of network infrastructure and VoIP systems and services throughout the County
Participates in the purchase, installation, and maintenance of network infrastructure equipment and software
Evaluates system performance, updates operational procedures, and recommends improvements
Communicates with end users, stakeholders, and vendors to facilitate project implementation and problem resolution
Ensure all network assets are responsibly maintained, inventoried, and/or disposed of properly
Administers the work request system used to report, diagnose, and resolve service and equipment problems
Manages the operational aspects of VoIP, including voice mail, Integrated Voice Response (IVR), call accounting and fax-back systems, cell phones, pagers, calling cards, asset management, and other related systems
Interfaces with outside entities to facilitate integration with communities wherever possible
Creates user and system documentation to reflect the most current wiring diagram and building connectivity
Performs phone set changes/moves/adds/deletes and related programming
Participates in cost analysis, department budgeting, short- and long-range planning and development of departmental objectives
Essential functions of this position include: walking; working with and around other staff and County employees; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand-wrist) for keyboarding; vision-acuity (near) for monitoring PC screen data; Color vision necessary for working with color coded cables; hearing and speech (ordinary conversation) for communicating with staff and customers; touch (finger dexterity) for keyboarding; Environmental hazards include electrical hazards associated with working with computers, servers and circuits, and potential for falls from ladders.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree in computer science or related field, with three years of increasingly responsible experience in telecommunications/VoIP and networks, including two years of systems management/administration; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Additional Requirements:
Fingerprint Clearance will be required for this position.
The ideal candidatewill have a positive "can do" attitude with a strong emphasis on customer service and hands on working experience deploying network switches, routers, firewalls, and security appliances.
Preferences:Current CCNA Certification; experience with Cisco Call Manager; Layer 2 / 3 environments.
This position is non exempt from overtime.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of:
OSI Model and route/switch protocols
Network/VoIP system configuration, operation, and maintenance
Wireless networking and security
Cisco network equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, appliances and IOS
VoIP technologies, applications, and interface requirements
Personal computer operations and applications
Principles and practices of project planning and implementation
Firm understanding of the TCP/IP
Working knowledge of:
Experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 network infrastructure, best practices and principles
VoIP hardware and software
Participation in the configuration of enterprise Wi-Fi systems
Familiarity with SolarWinds (IPAM, Network Performance Monitor, & Network Configuration Manager)
Firewall management and policies. Perimeter network appliances (Email Scrubbers, Threat Intelligence Gateways, Anomaly Detection)
Research methods and procedures
Troubleshooting techniques for quality assurance, both voice and data
Visio diagrams
Asset management
Ability to:
Participate as a team member on various Network and telecommunications projects
Maintain and troubleshoot 802.1x security configuration utilizing RADIUS.
Willingness to take on new tasks and responsibilities to meet the objectives of the department and company.
Analyze and resolve problems relating to telecommunications equipment and software
Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with users, suppliers, technicians, and contractors
Design and present customized training
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, other agencies and the public
Follow written and verbal instructions
Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
