  • Minimum Hiring Annual Salary:

$75,722.00

  • (as of July 1, 2024 all positions will receive a 2% increase)

Maximum Hiring Annual Salary:

$79,508.10

To attain the maximum annual salary, employee must meet all minimum qualifications plus:

  • 5 (five) years of additional applicable work experience and/or degrees higher than minimum qualification degree. Degrees higher than the minimum qualification degree can be used in combination with additional work experience.

The stated salary amounts are not guaranteed in the event employment ends with Aims during any fiscal year.

Job Description:

Aims Community College Network and Telecom team consists of five network and systems administrators and a team Director who reports to the Chief Technology Officer. This team highly values collaboration. All of the team members manage all of our systems. Two of the team members (including this position) focus primarily on network design, performance, troubleshooting and maintenance. The other three team members focus primarily on systems design and maintenance and hardware. We support five campuses and our own primary and secondary datacenters. We rotate on-call duties through the team, usually about one week per month per team member. We work the usual business hours but do have network down days and other maintenance days where we work non-business hours.

We use Palo Alto firewalls, Extreme switches, and Aruba wireless controllers and access points. We use ClearPass as a network access control solution. Our systems include: VMware, SANs and vSAN - we are about 95% virtualized, Dell hardware (hosts/servers, storage), Windows and Linux servers, Avaya Cloud Office telecom, SolarWinds network monitoring and helpdesk, F5 load balancers, and Veeam backup and replication. We configure, maintain and monitor about 250 servers. Other IT teams reporting to the CIO/CTO at Aims include Technical Services (helpdesk, computer management and user assistance), Application Services/Enterprise Services (manages applications such as Google, Banner, etc.), and IT Security.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

Check all monitoring systems including VCenter, SolarWinds, datacenter monitor, Alertra, etc. for issues daily. Create tickets and resolve issues as needed. Product research, AP and switch configurations, VCenter network configurations, device builds and implementations, lift, install, and move servers and devices in datacenter and other sites as needed.

Participate in on-call rotation, carry on-call phone and be available, in town and sober during that period approximately 1 out of 4 - 5 weeks. Respond if at all possible to "all hands" situations on and off-hours. Occasionally on last working day of week - work evening shift vs day shift, and approximately one Sunday per month - work network down day.

Work with director to schedule vacations, etc. for optimal coverage (avoid being off at same time as the other network administrator, or situations where more than 2 team members are off work at same time). Quickly shifting priorities and rapid response to issues.

Network Administration:

  • Install, maintain and enhance the College network infrastructure: Monitor functionality, upgrade as necessary.

  • Responsible for Windows and Linux systems administration including installation, operation, and maintenance of software and networked servers. System diagnostics and troubleshooting, including analysis of ongoing performance, systems slowdowns, and bottlenecks.

  • Monitoring and health of day-to-day operations of servers, systems, database servers, and all other mission critical IT systems as well as vulnerability patch management.

IT Solution Design & Implementation:

  • Research, propose and implement IT based solutions for Aims.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:

  • Solve issues with hardware, software, network function, and telecommunications for any and all systems used at Aims.

  • Assist peers in IT in solving problems/troubleshooting.

Hardware Installation & Support:

  • Install, configure, and perform maintenance on IT hardware (servers, network equipment, wireless access points, etc.) where required on any of the Aims campuses.

Documentation:

  • Document processes, procedures, equipment details, configurations, software specifics, systems administration notes, and any job-related functions in the departmental knowledge base for the Network and Telecom team.

Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or other related field; plus,

  • Four (4) years of experience repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting wired, and wireless networks and multiple server environments, operating numerous software applications and computers in a complex, dynamic datacenter and networked environment, and knowledge of fiber networks and configuration or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of: Windows, LINUX, database administration, and network testing and monitoring procedures.

  • Other applicable certifications.

  • This position requires the use of a company vehicle and/or personal vehicle for business travel. The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.
