JOB TITLE: NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR

DEPARTMENT: Information Technology

REPORTS TO: Director of Information Technology

FLSA STATUS/CLASSIFICATION: Exempt; Professional Salary Schedule

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: none

SUMMARY: Works with Director of Technology and Information Services Staff to design, deploy, secure and maintain the communication networks across the District.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates, prioritizes and addresses server and network level issues

  • Completes technology work orders as assigned

  • Evaluates, deploys, and maintains district servers and network devices as directed

  • Monitors and maintains all aspects of network performance including site-to-site connectivity and Internet bandwidth

  • Administers and maintains the District wireless network access points and central controllers

  • Works with Director of Technology and District departments to evaluate, onboard and deploy new technology resources as needed

  • Monitors and maintains security infrastructure including the District firewall and content filter

  • Provides oversight and support for phone, intercom, fire alarm, security and CCTV systems

  • Coordinates upgrades and ongoing support with vendors for network and special systems

  • When needed troubleshoots and installs physical communication media such as copper cabling

  • Refers unresolved technology problems to the Director of Technology

  • Answers technical support phone calls and responds to emergency issues as needed

  • Assists the Director of Technology in developing a district and building level long-term replacement schedule for network infrastructure and special systems components

  • Assists, oversees and manages network upgrade projects

  • May be assigned other special technology projects by the Director of Technology

  • Works with the Director of Technology to monitor software licensing compliance

  • Works with other members of the District's Information Services department to evaluate network issues, capacity and stability

  • Attends ongoing technology (software and hardware) computer training as directed and necessary

  • Forwards relevant information received from all sources to the school administration and staff, when appropriate

  • Arranges for the installation of hardware devices and software programs as needed

  • Responsible for the security, upkeep, operation and care of all assigned equipment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate computer related hardware and software programs

  • A thorough knowledge of the use and utilization of technology in educational environments

  • Ability to generate production work with speed and accuracy and to meet timelines

  • In depth knowledge of Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016 and Windows 7/10 operating systems

  • In depth knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy

  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL a plus

  • Ability to create, test and implement VB and Power Shell scripts

  • Experience with Command Line (CLI) environments

  • Experience with the configuration of Dell and Ruckus networking hardware

  • Experience with FortiGate and / or NextGen firewalls a plus

  • Experience with virtualization environments

  • Experience with SAN and distributed storage environments

  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange and Google G Suite Admin

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network, server and workstation issues

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Ability to do detailed mathematical computations

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations

  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies

  • Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Vocational/Associate Degree or college coursework with specialization in technology

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems Management preferred

  • Five years of experience in the field of technology

  • Three years of experience in network administration preferred

  • A+, Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, and MCSA certifications preferred, other technology certifications desirable

  • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

  • Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance

Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as well as those identified above.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor office environment. This position regularly works indoors with some outdoor work related to cable infrastructure and wireless access points. This position may also be called upon for work in ceilings, walls and tight spaces such as network closets. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with employees, external agencies and the public.
