POSITION TITLE: Network Administrator

DEPARTMENT: IT

REPORTS TO: IT Director

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SALARY GRADE: $48.83 - $58.60 per hour DOE

Position Summary:

Develops and maintains all information systems to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient data communication and network operation. Honors and represents the mission, vision, and values of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe (CIT) and the IT department.

This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Installs, maintains, and configures all virtual and local network servers including DCs, file servers, IIS, database servers, DaaS, and other servers, as well as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless bridges/access points.

  • Installs, maintains, and configures hardware, peripherals, settings, storage, and directories in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Assists in designing network expansion.

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.

  • Secures systems by developing, administering, and monitoring system access; establishing and treating disaster recovery policies and procedures; completing backups and maintaining documentation.

  • Adds, removes, and changes authorities for network users; develops and maintains user access policies and procedures for the LAN and the internet.

  • Performs regular system monitoring including verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes; reviews system and application logs and verifies completion of scheduled jobs such as backups; reports problems to the appropriate individuals.

  • Provides coordinated support with the Sr. Network Administrator and the Cloud Systems Administrator to resolve reported network and equipment problems; provides answers to complex questions related to network systems.

  • Establishes and maintains contact with vendors; coordinates with vendors to facilitate technical support and problem resolution.

  • Applies Server OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis; configures and adds new services as necessary.

  • Creates and maintains Group Policies and Active Directory.

  • Communicates with and trains personnel on MIS and new applications system changes.

  • Develops and maintains all user and MIS documentation according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Assists with system maintenance and modification as needed.

  • Keeps abreast of industry trends and new technologies.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences.

  • Provides excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality and presents a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of traditional form of government and tribal customs and traditions.

  • Knowledge of MIS and IT concepts, principles, and practices; computer operations and user environments; and enterprise applications.

  • Knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) and/ or Wide Area (WAN) hardware and software.

  • Knowledge of federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software.

  • Knowledge of and experience with Windows 10 Professional operating systems, enterprise systems, Microsoft Domain networking, various programming languages or Windows scripting.

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.

  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.

  • Skill in training assigned staff.

  • Ability to plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot system applications.

  • Ability to design, develop, and implement integrated software systems solutions to organizational requirements.

  • Ability to analyze operational requirements and assess technology and capacity requirements.

  • Ability to develop and write systems and applications documentation and guides for users.

  • Ability to provide a range of systems training and support activities for users.

  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on systems and devices.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong critical and analytical thinking skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds, employees and officials.

  • Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.

  • Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in IT, MIS, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Three years experience installing and maintaining a LAN/WAN Windows NT network.

  • Obtain and maintain CompTIA or MCSE certification within three months of hire.

  • Hardware/Software Vendor certifications, e.g., FortiNet, Cisco, Adtran, Dell, EMC VXRail preferred.

  • Experience within a Windows Server environment using Server 2012 or higher preferred.

  • A combination of relevant education and related work experience may be considered.

  • Valid drivers license is required when driving vehicles for work-related purposes.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a background screening / investigation according to the established requirements below.

Tribal preference in accordance with Cowlitz Indian Tribe Code and CIT Employee Policies and Procedures Handbook shall apply to all positions. All positions are required to adhere to CITs established safety policies regarding vaccine requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Pre-employment drug screen.

  • Federal, state, and/or tribal criminal history and sanction checks including fingerprint verification

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit, stand, and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to kneel or crouch; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Exposure to dust, allergens, infectious disease, and hostile individuals may occur. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Travel is required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
