Job Description

The purpose of the position is to assist in the development and maintenance of our various enterprise information technology systems and supporting subsystems. This encompasses assistance on client systems as advisor/liaison to our clients in order to satisfy any current and forecasted needs. It may include both qualifying the necessary requirements and providing demonstrations of the recommended solutions prior to any formal implementation. For this, the ideal candidate should possess strong professional interpersonal qualities in addition to the technical aptitude expected from an established IT expert.

Position Duties

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as

Functional Area:Network Administration

  • Ensure the stable operation of all enterprise network hardware and software infrastructure, LANs, WANs and WLANs.

  • Perform network design and capacity planning.

  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes and service records.

  • Diagnose problems with network equipment and perform equipment repair or upgrades when appropriate.

  • Installs, configures and maintains network dabbling and other networking equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls and other related hardware or software.

  • Monitors network performance and notifies IT management and other IT employees of issues.

  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware and software upgrades relating to network or telecom equipment.

  • Design and deploy enterprise class wireless networks, including access points, routers, switches and other hardware necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate.

  • Nine years of paid experience in planning, designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting system networks in an enterprise environment.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with the following technology or equivalent Routing, Switching, virtual private network (VPN), voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), information sharing environment (ISE), wireless local area network (WLAN), and firewall configuration and administration.

OR

  • An associate's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a technical field.

  • Five years of paid experience in planning, design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of system networks in an enterprise environment.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with the following technology or equivalent Routing, Switching, virtual private network (VPN), voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), information sharing environment (ISE), wireless local area network (WLAN), and firewall configuration and administration.

OR

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a technical field.

  • three years of paid experience in planning, design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of system networks in an enterprise environment.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with the following technology or equivalent Routing, Switching, virtual private network (VPN), voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), information sharing environment (ISE), wireless local area network (WLAN), and firewall configuration and administration.

Working Conditions & Additional Information:

Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in an office environment. Hours are primarily (Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm), but position requires employee to be flexible based on needs of the agency and available for any disaster or emergency situation.

Valid Florida Driver's License (must maintain for duration of employment)

Successful completion of the Sheriff's Office pre-employment medical certification

During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
