Unit Description:Newborns needing tertiary care

Many multiples (twins & triplets)Premature babies with respiratory, circulatory, nutrition, and developmental concerns. Treatments: Specialize in Family Centered Care with emphasis on developmental care. 22 Bed NICU Recently remodeled and expanded

Active involvement in NICQ (national Quality Collaborative) resulting in State of the Art care. On the fifth floor; great views; 20 minutes from the beach

Reporting to the Nursing Manager, this position is responsible for the planning and delivery of family-centered patient care utilizing the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care for patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards.

Collaborate with patient/family and other professional disciplines. Create a partnership to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery for the achievement of mutually desired patient outcomes. Support the organization's vision and mission.

Promote and provide excellence in nursing care. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS=EXPERIENCE=2 year acute care nursing experience within a pediatric setting.Associate degree in Nursing from an approved school.Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from an accredited school (preferred)=LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED=Basic Life Support (BLS)Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)Registered Nurse-California=SPECIAL SKILLS=Knowledge of and ability to provide appropriate family-centered patient care based upon age appropriateness and cultural and spiritual needs Excellent customer satisfaction skills

Ability to work collaboratively and in a positive manner with others Ability to prepare timely and accurate documentation and reports Ability to perform work according to CHOC policies and procedures, professional standards of care, and applicable laws Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in response to unexpected changes in work load/staffing Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standardsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS1) Accurately and thoroughly perform admission, initial, and ongoing assessments of the patient/family utilizing developmental theory to determine physiological, psychosocial, educational, spiritual, cultural, and related factors impacting illness/wellness.2) Review and assimilate clinical data for changes in patient status.3) Report and act on changes in patient condition.4) Recognize and respond to critical changes in clinical situation.5) Administer and monitor therapeutic interventions and regimens.6) Act as a patient advocate by identifying patient/family issues. Seeks out resources to resolve the issues. Ensures needs are met by establishing and re-evaluating priorities of all assigned patients.7) Incorporates organizational regulatory requirements and standards of care and clinical outcome data such as NDNQI, CALNOC, and patient safety goals into nursing practice.8) Promote excellence by partnering with the patient/family in the development of the plan of care.9) Utilizes the EMR to document throughout shift based on CHOC's policies and procedures.10) Provide and document all education to the patient/family related to hospitalization, clinical situation and treatment plan.

Required Qualifications

Years of Experience: 2. CA lic in handBLS, PALS, NRP1 year acute care nursing experience with 6 months in a pediatric settingBSN

The right nurse should have 1-2 years recent acute care experience. Read below for more requirements. As an ICU Travel Nurse, you'll be responsible for evaluating and monitoring patients in an Intensive Care Unit setting. ICU RNs provide the most direct care to patients in life-threatening situations, documenting and providing physician-directed care, assessing and implementing patient care plans, and delegating to other care providers as appropriate. As an ICU RN you will also be providing education and support to patient families, possibly for long-term care needs. As an ICU Travel Nurse, you should be prepared to perform the following tasks: * Provide basic bedside care. * Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment. * Order and evaluate diagnostic tests. * Take samples for lab work, order corresponding lab work and interpret reports. * Monitor and adjust specialized equipment, and interpret and record electronic displays. * Ensure proper placement and functioning of catheters, leads and tubing. * Communicate patients' conditions to family members. ICU Travel Nurses should be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean and stoop without difficulty. RNs should be able to easily lift 20 pounds. Moving or lifting of patients may require lifting of up to 50 pounds at times. RNs may face hazards from exposure to certain chemicals or infectious diseases and will treat patients that may be confused, agitated, and/or uncooperative. 2 years experience required.
