The Mission of the Neighborhood Improvement Services (formerly Community Engagement) focuses on department actions necessary to improve all neighborhoods of the City. Furthermore, Neighborhood Improvement Services connects Jacksonville's diverse neighborhoods with their City government to facilitate effective public participation, enhance economic opportunity, and implement community-based strategies to improve the quality of life for our Citizens.

The Neighborhood Improvement Coordinator performs responsible technical work and responsible administrative work coordinating and implementing community programs; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Community Engagement.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

Planning and coordinating community programs; obtaining resources; registering participants; maintaining records; preparing reports.(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.   • Provides administrative, customer service and technical support for community engagement programs.

  • Assists with coordinating, planning, and implementation of new programs.

  • Provides administrative and technical support for divisions in support of the departments overall mission.

  • Coordinates advisory committee meetings, workshops, seminars, classes and other community engagement events.

  • Responds to customer inquiries, complaints, and requests for service and provides information regarding city policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Maintains department's calendar; schedules appointment; prepares meeting agendas; records, transcribes, and distributes meeting minutes.

  • Processes department's incoming and outgoing mail.

  • Establishes office procedures; maintains complex and detailed files; transcribes and composes routine correspondence; creates various reports.

  • Completes data entry and maintains the department's databases.

  • Maintains accountability of the department's contracts, purchase orders, timesheets, and travel requests.

  • Maintains office supply inventory.

  • Processes financial transactions.

  • Administers Department's website and works with the Media department in the development of social media content.

  • Possesses basic construction knowledge foror demolition orhome repair to include major components such as HVAC, roofs, foundation, plumbing, and electrical systems.

  • Performs other tasks as required.

Required Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in psychology, public administration or related field and a minimum of 2 years experience in administering community programs.

The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $44,705.72 - $58,117.44 depending on qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the principles, rules and requirements of a variety of community programs; thorough knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of human services and community engagement; ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by superiors; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, youth, and the general public; ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
