This is a part-time or temporary non-benefited position.

The DREC is hiring a non-benefited timeslip employee to work at the Center's ranch located near Manning, ND. The annual work schedule for this employee would be as follows:

  • 20 weeks of full time with overtime possible.

  • 32 weeks of part time work at 19.5 hours per week.

  • Would be some weekend work hours.

Required job duties:

  • General crop, farm and ranch work

Tasks associated with this responsibility include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operation of various types of tractors and agricultural equipment

  • Conduct various agronomic practices such as tillage, seeding, harvesting feed and grain crops, assisting with crop hauling and storage.

  • Mowing, conditioning and baling hay.

  • Hauling and stacking hay.

  • Mowing and weed control of ranch site.

  • Collecting hay, crop and soil samples for testing.

  • Transporting livestock to and from various locations.

  • Perform other tasks as needed.

  • Care and handling of livestock such as cattle and horses

Tasks associated with this responsibility include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Establish routines and perform duties related to the care of livestock on pasture or in pens.

  • Prepare feed rations and mixes, utilizing feed grinding and chopping equipment.

  • Distribute assigned feed rations to livestock and maintain feed consumption records.

  • Daily inspection of livestock for health and adequate water supply.

  • Assist with appropriate veterinary procedures.

  • Provide routine cattle checks during the calving season, which includes weighing and tagging newborn calves and maintaining calving records.

  • Assist with livestock handling to obtain required research data.

  • Clean and repair animal shelters, feed and water troughs, barns, storage areas, fences, pens corrals and other livestock facilities.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age

  • Valid driver's license

  • Experience in farming/ranching operations

  • Knowledge and experience in care and handling of livestock

  • Proficiency in maintenance and operation of machinery and physical facilities

  • Experience in towing large livestock trailers

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

Minimum salary hourly rate will be $15.00 an hour and up depending on experience.

Start date: As soon as possible after background check has been completed and approved.

Employee will be required to check in/out each day using the NDSU HRMS timeclock.
