Role Summary:

The NC Programmer/Manufacturing Engineer will develop and implement safe and reliable machining process solutions which include specification of tooling, writing NC programs, and performing training mainly for the Schenectady Rotor / Field Machine shop and Large Machining Shop production workscope and schedule.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the NC Programmer / Manufacturing Engineer you will:

  • Code and develop NC Programs for use on Lathes, HBM's, NC Machine Centers, Field Slotters, and other NC driven equipment

  • Learn the software tools used in Schenectady for program creation and validation, such as APT, Vericut, Mastercam as needed for tasks

  • Work with industry tooling engineers to specify and procure safe and reliable tooling on a timely basis in support of the production schedules

  • Develop and revise tooling and NC programs in support of cycle and cost out initiatives, geared at working in team approach with machinists to improve processes on a regular meeting rhythm

  • Assist in capital improvement projects geared towards identifying machine deficiencies and working individually or in team to solve these issues

  • Assist and work with other programmers to ensure programs, tooling and planning paperwork are available on time for start of jobs

  • Develop training materials and plans as needed in support of work packages

  • Establish, document, and maintain design for manufacturing (DFM) guidelines for engineering use compatible with current manufacturing capability

  • Evaluate new products for manufacturability per established DFM guidelines

  • Initiate and project manage capital equipment projects that support new product designs, factory capacity additions, and quality improvement goals

  • Implement operator training plans

  • Apply lean methods to equipment and material handling designs to reduce waste throughout the production process

  • Support plant lean and EHS initiatives

  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment and processes

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university (OR High School Diploma / GED plus a minimum of 3

years working in a manufacturing environment)

  • Minimum of 3 years of industry

experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of Manufacturing Shop Floor

experience

Desired Characteristics:

  • Hands on experience with CAD and Solid Modeling

  • Hands on experience using CAM software with machine centers

  • Knowledge of APT

  • Knowledge of G Code Programming

  • Hands on experience with Fanuc machine controllers

  • Ability to read drawings. Knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Tolerancing Standards

  • Strong knowledge and significant experience working in NC programming, machining and related planning.

  • Good oral and written communication skills, and organization ability.

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

  • Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines
