Job Title: NBS /Metabolic Care Coordinator Genetics/ Client Services
Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $35,360-$41,000, annual
General Duties:
Monitor and respond to genetics team tasks through the electronic medical record system (EMR)
Respond to telephone inquiries from patients and referring providers
Review incoming referrals and triage patients into appropriate clinics
Ensure pertinent medical records and lab results are in the EMR prior to patient appointment
Prep charts prior to clinic
Coordinate care of patients with CMS nurses and primary care providers.
Provide clinical services as MA in clinic when needed
Enter patient information into database
Upload patient photos into EMR
Coordination of Laboratory Testing:
Obtain insurance pre-authorization/perform laboratory benefits investigations
Complete test requisition packets for send-out labs
Coordinate appointments for specimen collection from patients/families after approval
Prepare letters of medical necessity as needed
Monitor and retrieve lab results for outpatients and inpatients; direct to appropriate provider for follow up
Communicate with patients regarding lab results
Maintain supply of collection kits for laboratory tests
Services for Metabolic Patients:
Liaison between physician, patient and outside providers/ERs in coordination of care for patients with metabolic emergencies
Communicate with families of metabolic patients regarding medications, prescription refills, etc.
Assist in composing letters from templates - including letters for emergency recommendations, letters summarizing a patient's condition, and letters for school/daycare regarding management
File emergency management letters for metabolic patients in EHR
Prepare prescription refills
Obtain insurance preauthorization for medications and medical foods
Prepare letters of medical necessity as needed
Complete forms as needed for patients and their families
Coordinate and schedule infusion therapy for metabolic patients
Assist with coordination of more complex specific testing (i.e. bone marrow transplant, liver biopsies, etc.)
Assist with follow up for abnormal Newborn Metabolic Screens
Participate in research with the team opportunity to build your academic resume, includes submitting patient and family information to research studies, helping to identify available clinical trials, and assisting providers in the grant application process
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with two years of experience in a position that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training (i.e. medical assistant or equivalent clinical training) may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Specific training/experience may be required depending upon the specialty area of the position.
