The Naturopathic Medicine External Site Coordinator faciliates the day-to-day activities of ND student rotations of the WA campus at clinics in the community that serve varying populations that are ethnically diverse and financially challenged which include seniors, women and youths experiencing homelessness.

Work Schedule: 24 hours/week.

60% FTE - Hours and Days On-Site. Flexible schedule requires to prior approval. ND candidates who are licensed in Washington State may be offered opportunities to supervise clinical shifts for up to the remaining 40% FTE.

Job Duties:

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Director of Graduate and Community Education and the Dean of the School of Naturopathic Medicine, the external site coordinator supports both the University and program's mission, vision and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a commitment to training health care providers that provide compassionate care to all communities.

  • In consult with the Dean of Naturopathic Medicine, Associate Dean of Naturopathic Medicine, Director of Graduate and Community Medicine, and faculty, the external site coordinator will develop and expand the off-site/external shift program from prospect site identification to operation of the rotation that shall prioritize identifying/cultivating prospect sites that support diverse and underrepresented communities.

  • Organize and present informational sessions to all levels of ND students, educate the local medical community about the Bastyr University naturopathic program, submit a prospect analysis report for internal stakeholders, and assist in the development of operational procedures in consult with medical and administrative staff from both Bastyr and the off-site clinics.

  • Supervise one work-study employee, perform day-to-day problem solving, conduct site visits and reviews, schedule and facilitate meetings with host sites and Bastyr, train new faculty supervisors on supply and dispensary ordering and inventory procedures, negotiate supply and dispensary costs, invoice host sites for supplies and dispensary items, track inventory supplies, submit the patient census and expenses, and assist in the development of the external shift budget.

  • Disseminate information regarding all naturopathic medicine external rotations and off-site activities, communicate changes in rotation status to the students, and counsel students on naturopathic medicine external rotation opportunities, process site credentialing requirements, and track/follow-up on submitted documents.

  • Coordinate marketing activities in accordance with pre-approved guidelines, work closely with the Development Office to cultivate and acknowledge donors and supporters of the program.

  • Update operating agreements and procedures, provide the necessary materials and documents needed for the University accreditation process as directed by the Director of Graduate and Community Medicine

  • To perform other task and responsibilities relevant to the position as directed by the Director of Graduate and Community Medicine.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes, supports, and adhere to the DEI principles of Bastyr Univeristy

  • Submit regular reports on the patient census and other reports needed for strategic planning and resource allocation.

  • Participate in university accreditation process as directed by the Director of Graduate and Community Medicine and Dean of the School of Naturopathic Medicine.

  • Undertake other projects and assignments as directed by the Director of Graduate and Community Medicine.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Must understand the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in clinical education and patient care.

2.Must know project management; survey development, implementation, and reporting; and budget development.

3.Must be have good public speaking skills, fluent in English, and have excellent written/verbal communication skills and ability to communicate clearly over the telephone, in writing and in-person with health care professionals in all areas, students in all programs, faculty, and department managers at the clinic, and to present program information to small and large audiences.

4.Must have the ability to travel to off-site locations

5.Must have conflict resolution and problem-solving skills

6.Must be able to provide presentations to outside medical and managerial professionals about the Bastyr training program in an effort to develop off-site ND opportunities.

7.Must have knowledge of college-level student registration procedures and requirements preferred.

8.Must have at least a Bachelor's Degree with coursework in communications, education and/or counseling.

9.Must be able to function cooperatively and efficiently in a team environment while also able to work independently.



  1. Ability to produce forms, reports, articles, fliers, and letters using PC-based word-processing, database management and spreadsheet software.

  2. Ability to write proposals, marketing materials, newsletter articles for intra-University and off-site clinic publications, formal agreements, and procedures in consultation with various staff members and external contacts.

  3. Must background in reviewing legal documents and educational operating agreements.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in education, communication, or related field with relevant background experience or ND degree from a CNME accredited school.

  • At least three to five years of general administrative experience, including customer service, public relations/outreach, counseling in records-intensive environment.

  • Academic advising or placement type experience, program development and/or coordination experience in a health care or educational setting, or comparable experience, is strongly preferred.

While in any clinic space, masks are still recommended unless in non-patient areas. Approved masks include N-95, KN-95, and surgical masks. While the university no longer requires N-95/KN-95 masks, Bastyr does recommend them, especially for those with specific vulnerabilities or the desire for extra safety.
