Job Duties

Provides direct oversight of a state-wide program dedicated to securing quality marine fisheries recreational catch participation and for research led by NOAA and supported by the Atlantic Coastal Cooperative Statistics Program. Fulltime position supervising the technical full-time (2) and seasonal part-time staff (up to 13) of the Marine Recreational Information Program.

Provides training, supervision, and quality control procedures; prepares assignment scheduling for Field Information technicians; track sampling progress and updates the sites and description files and vessel directories for field personnel. Will review all interviews and data obtained for accuracy, completeness, legibility, and consistency with coding and will monitor performance on an ongoing basis and serve as the data liaison to ACCSP.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the Virginia recreational finfish species. Ideal candidate will have experience in supervising a field-based data collection staff and program, maintenance of field and office equipment and coordination of diverse field and office procedures.

Candidate shall also demonstrate familiarity with and ability to use statistical methods to summarize and describe various types of finfish catch data. Must have experience in quality control and be able to edit data retrieved from interviews for accuracy, completeness and consistency with coding. Excellent communication skills are required, as well as ability to deal with the general public in a diplomatic manner.

Ability to effectively supervise staff, conduct quality control check of data entry, maintain all program time-and-effort and procurement requirements, and communicate effectively with the Deputy Chief of Fisheries for Research and Surveys programmatic information necessary. Prefer significant work experience in natural resources or a related field. Must be eligible for a valid VA driver's license.
