Responsibilities

Plan and conduct vegetation surveys and site assessments to determine species present, relative ground cover, species distribution and frequency. Identify vascular plants via dichotomous botanical keys and visual recognition.

Navigate using topographic maps and GPS. Design and implement revegetation plans and erosion control and invasive plant treatments.

Prepare and administer contracts and agreements.

Collect seed and vegetative material; coordinate with seed producers and nurseries to provide needed plant material.

Manage program budgets, and oversee planning and implementation of restoration projects.

Write and edit reports for project activities. Create maps in GIS; enter and manage data in spreadsheets and databases.

Supervise 2-3 natural resource specialists; develop work schedules and priorities for staff.

Develop and maintain partnerships with other federal agencies and external partners. Conduct briefings, field tours, and present information at meetings and conferences. Develop and conduct field trainings, workshops, and webinars.

Travel Required
50% or less - Travel duration generally 2-3 days per trip, with increased frequency (3-4 times per month) during the field season. Outside of the field season, travel is typically 1-2 times per month. Purpose of travel is to conduct field work, attend meetings, and interact with partners.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement (or date of referral if an Open Continuous announcement) as defined below. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, forestry, or botany.

OR

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, forestry, or botany. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.

OR

Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, forestry, or botany, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation.

In addition to the requirements described above, the following additional experience is required for the grade specified.

For the GS-12 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level.

Examples of specialized experience are: Conducted vegetation surveys and site assessments; Identified vascular plants via dichotomous botanical keys and visual recognition; Designed and implementation of revegetation plans and invasive plant treatments; Prepared and administered contracts and agreements; Collected seed and vegetative material and worked with seed producers and nurseries; Developed and tracked budgets.

Work Experience : Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT : If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
