NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION:

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr.Tonja M. Williams, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

NATIVE AMERICAN RESOURCE PROGRAM COORDINATOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be New York State or Buffalo certified in a NYS approved tenure area and have at least three years of teaching experience. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and have a strong sense of responsibility for the academic and developmental welfare of Native American students. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of instructional technology and an understanding of Native American culture. Teaching experience with Native American students or lived experience is highly desirable.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of Native American culture; Thorough knowledge of the purposes of the program; Ability to develop curriculum; Ability to monitor programs and make recommendations; Ability to train and supervise personnel; Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing; Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships; Good judgment; initiative; resourcefulness

DUTIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the Title VI Grant; procure supplies, track expenditures, and submit required reports

  • Organize the required Public Hearing

  • Work with Central Registration to ensure the completion of a 506 Form by Native American families when a child is being registered

  • Assist in supporting families of Native American students who do not have a completed 506 Form

  • Work with the Cultural Resource Specialists to determine the accuracy and counts of completed 506 forms in order to maintain accurate funding.

  • Prepare for and facilitate the required Native American Parent/Student Committee meetings

  • Maintain the NARP pages on the district website

  • Search out additional funding opportunities

  • Oversee the work of the Native American Resource Program (NARP) staff

  • Create and monitor staff school visit schedules

  • Support NARP curriculum creation and implementation

  • Plan, organize and implement district wide events that showcase Native American Culture, including socials

  • Infuse Native American culture into all buildings through resources & materials

  • Participate and facilitate events that spread awareness to the community that there is a Native American Magnet School and Native American Resource Program

  • Develop a strategic calendar/plan to provide supports to Native American students across the district

  • Create a monthly newsletter

  • Use data to determine programmatic needs

  • Develop post-secondary plans for students in collaboration with area colleges

  • Plan and coordinate extra-curricular events, family engagement opportunities

  • Serve as BPS liaison to the Native American Community Services of Erie & Niagara Counties, Inc., and other CBOs focused on Native American students

  • Develop resource guides for school educators regarding how to effectively support Native American students

  • Develop requisitions and track purchases

  • Attend and provide professional learning opportunities related to Native American Culture

APPOINTMENT:

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews, a modeled lesson and a writing sample shall be scheduled.
