Job Description:


The Senior Account Director is responsible for maintaining an existing book of dental and vision business in the National Account Market. They will need to develop strong internal and external relationships to achieve success.

Fundamental Components:

  • Meets retention and profitability objectives for an assigned book of business.

  • Delivers organized, polished utilization and industry presentations which provide strategic insight and allows for recommendations to meet the clients long term business goals.

  • Evaluates client's dental/ vision plans to ensure client's needs are being met while showing the value of staying with Aetna products.

  • Partners with underwriting to meet the clients strategic and financial goals so ensure a successful renewal while maintaining territory retention and profitability objectives.

  • Identifies and capitalizes on emerging trends in the marketplace as the Subject Matter Expert on dental and vision for clients, consultants/ brokers and account teams

  • Develops a mutually rewarding working relationship with clients, account teams, underwriting and consultants/ brokers to ensure client retention.

  • Shares relevant industry and competitive data within and across business units and segments to support the development of new product initiatives.

  • Communicates high level client retention status to management and is knowledgeable about the risk status for all groups in the book of business.

  • Collaborates with team members on case installation, ensuring a smooth transition from sales to account management.

  • Insurance license, as required by state law

7-9 years industry experience with complex national sales and/or client management.

Licensure as required.


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Most importantly, everything we do, we do for the learner. The Director of Sales is responsible for the sales performance of multiple Field sales districts across an assigned geographic region. The Director of Sales will have 5-10 District Manager direct reports and be responsible for over $100M in sales. The Director of Sales will drive sales performance by providing strategic direction and support to field sales teams, holding sales districts accountable for sales growth and goal achievement, working with the Director of Key Accounts to drive share growth at high-opportunity accounts, working with the Director of Customer Success to drive digital product sales, usage, and retention, and working with the Director of Sales Talent Development to build the most effective teams. What You'll Do Here: * Provide leadership to assigned personnel, translating Company and Region vision and strategy into workable, tactical implementation plans * Work cooperatively with Director of Key Accounts to develop strategies for increasing Cengage market share through growth of under-monetized large accounts * Work cooperatively with Director of Customer Success to ensure support, drive usage growth, and ensure renewal of large digital adoptions * Work cooperatively with Director of Sales Talent Development to acquire strong talent, coach up current members of the team, and build a culture of learning and improvement * Coordinate with and support district leadership teams as required to secure high-value, departmental or institutional sales * Recruit, develop, and retain sales talent at the Learning Consultant and District Manager levels * Cooperate with regional bookstore partners to drive sell-through of print products * Oversee budgets for assigned Districts and ensure that reporting requirements are met Skills You Will Need Here: Basic (Required) * BA or BS degree * Minimum 6-8 years of progressive experience in Sales, Marketing, or Management * Experience leading managers in education, publishing, or related information delivery industry * Experience managing a sales team with a proven track record in sales, sales management and leadership * Strong business acumen and excellent team-building skills * Excellent leadership and people skills, problem-solving skills, time management skills * Driven to succeed * Desire for continuous learning and improvement * Proficiency in PC and Microsoft Office applications * Demonstrated ability and quantifiable success in managing corporate initiatives * Ability to travel 30-40% overnight; must be able to travel by both auto and air Preferred * Sales experience in academic publishing, services, or other higher education sales * Experience mentoring and developing others * Digital product training experience in educational settings; direct digital training experience in a higher education setting highly desired * Flexibility and adaptability to change * Ability to work effectively in a group and reach decisions by consensus Cengage Learning Atlanta GA
