National Pursuits/Capture Manager

Leads pursuit teams in strategy, identification of differentiators and win themes, pre-positioning, direction of client interface (though not a client-facing position), storyboarding, proposal oversight to make sure the proposal reflects the strategy (but not a Proposal Manager position), interview prep and coaching, corporate review compliance, and pursuit budgeting & monitoring.

Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Business Development group as a National Pursuits/Capture Manager. This position will sit in any of our major US hub offices, including Orlando FL, Miami FL, Tampa FL, Atlanta GA, Calverton MD, Raleigh NC, Henderson NV, Alexandria, VA, Houston, TX.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Leads the pursuit team.

  • Serves as "cheerleader" for the pursuit

  • Drives strategy development. Participates in strategy development, strategic pursuit development, competitor analysis, and market research.

  • Identifies differentiators and win themes

  • Leads pre-positioning activities (although not client-facing)

  • Leads storyboarding, working with the Proposal Manager

  • Provides proposal oversight (storyboarding and reviews) to ensure that the proposal reflects the strategy. May write key message-intensive sections such as the Cover Letter or Executive Summary.

  • Prepares the pursuit budget and drives the process to meet the budget

  • Works across geographies and markets, with our primary markets being transportation, intermodal, federal, and state & local government.

  • Travels, approximately 10% typically, but this has been suspended during the COVID-19 emergency.

  • Directs all aspects of the pursuit capture activities in accordance with our firm's capture process, under guidance and support from the National Capture Director.

  • Maintains/nurtures relationship with marketing resources, BU Directors, BU Business Development (BD), Regional BD, BU managers, and Technical Professional Organization (TPO) managers.

  • Participates in capture update calls/reviews with senior/executive management and ensures all assigned opportunities are kept current in our tracking system.

  • Provides management, supervision, mentoring and support to any assigned capture managers.

  • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the capture process conform to internal stage gate reviews, to include scheduling the necessary reviews to receive approval for qualifications and/or proposal/pricing submissions.

  • Attends business unit and strategy groups meetings as requested/directed.

  • Provides strategic market sector positioning assistance as directed.

  • Facilitates progress meetings and drives pursuit team accountability (including subconsultants).

  • Manages project capture plan action plans/schedules.

  • Participates in proposal reviews (e.g., pink, red, gold), working closely with the Marketing proposal team.

  • Develops and/or supports presentation strategy, support materials and visuals; coordinates and critiques rehearsals and presentations.

  • Assists with capture training, to include providing training to staff.

  • Coordinates with BU and TPO in development of capture strategy and teaming as requested.

  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor's degree in English, business administration, marketing or a related major, or a field related to the infrastructure industry, or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience related to the infrastructure industry. Minimum fifteen years of relevant experience, with at least ten of these managing pursuits and a proven track record in pursuit/capture management and/or sales valued at $5 million.

  • Job requires strong organizational and supervisory skills, together with a high level of interpersonal and communication skills. Outgoing, self-starter with innate sales orientation, optimism and drive. Ability to facilitate teams. Experience in presentation coaching.

  • The ideal candidate has 15+ years of experience in Architectural/Engineering marketing, some business development or client management experience.

  • Ability to lead and challenge large teams, think strategically, know the A/E marketplace, write well, coach interview teams and know how to win in the A/E industry.

  • Geographic location is flexible as long as you are co-located with one of our hub offices.

VIEW JOBS 10/13/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-11T00:00 United States of America - Virginia, Arlington - VA Job Summary The Capture Manager (CM), which will report to the Practice Sales Director, is predominately responsible for (1) strategy development and (2) capture planning and win strategies for business opportunities within the Environment Business Line (EBL) Practice (e.g. IAP, Remediation, or EHS/Air). There are multiple roles available and this position can be based anywhere in U.S. or Canada. The CM will be responsible for identifying the resources needed to pursue a business opportunity; proposal capture strategies, building value propositions, overseeing bid strategies, commercial strategy development, proposal response, interview preparation, supporting negotiations, and teaming. Additionally, the CM will manage the transition from business opportunity to proposal development to award. The CM will work with the sales team to develop capture strategies and manage timelines to meet and exceed yearly sales targets for the Practice. The CM will manage the capture process to grow sales across the respective Practice in cooperation with the EBL/DCSA when opportunities cross Practices or Business Lines. The CM would also support client account managers, EBL leadership, and the Strategic Growth Initiatives (SGI). Primary KPIs include meeting established Practice Line Gross Revenue and Gross Margin Bookings, capture rates including improvement on large pursuits to established criteria, and diversifying services line portfolio. Duties and Responsibilities: * Oversee bid strategies, pricing, teaming, and proposal strategies; and manage the transition from business opportunity to proposal development to award. * Ensure that the pursuit is getting the proper attention, priority, and funding as well as identify the pursuit team with defined roles. * Provide insight on practice and market conditions for pursuit strategy development. * Support legal, risk and contract reviews. * Oversee Readiness to Win process including presentations with the senior EBL leadership and Office of Growth, as required. * Lead the creation, management and distribution of targeted in-depth information and analysis of assigned opportunities (i.e. prepositioning, capture planning, green light analysis, etc.). * Develop, in cooperation with the team, proposal themes and messages, including differentiators and innovation. * Assist in setting proposal pricing based on scope, duration, and skills required. * Serve as the customer advocate during reviews to bring the voice of the customer into planning and strategy sessions. * Strategy development including potential team member selection and roles. * Assist in identifying relevant and qualified team members and/or subcontractors; coordinating development and execution of teaming/subcontract agreements. * Establish timed gates for go/no-go reviews and bid decision reviews (pink, red, green review teams). * Establish and maintain price to win including supporting analysis. * Plan scheduled execution with appropriate milestones, monitor and report to Practice management as required. * Collaborate with the account and technical team to understand how to price and compile a winning / competitive proposal. * Work in partnership with marketing on "AECOM" branded proposals, interview presentations and other marketing materials. * Support the Sales Director with strategic planning and execution. * Support proposal reviews. * Support lessons learned and debrief of customer feedback. * Lead client listening efforts to understand client needs and business objectives. * For pursuits supporting; maintain accuracy of the opportunity data within Salesforce CRM Minimum Requirements BA/BS in Environmental Related field (geology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, or engineering) with 10 Years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. 10 years of successful capture experience in the public or private sectors, demonstrating ability to win new business opportunities.
