The Scripps National Team is seeking an aggressive, creative and very experienced National Multimedia Journalist that will be based in San Diego, California.

We need a strong storyteller who can enterprise content with a national scope. This person will shoot, write and edit their own material, and on average, turn 2-3 stories a week. They are required to bring story ideas to the table, and will be primarily responsible to cover San Diego, and the West Coast region..

We value strong storytelling that focuses on characters that will connect the viewer to the emotional content in the material. We want to see work that puts an issue in context. The successful candidate must have strong enterprise skills and be able to recognize topics that will resonate across the country. We seek someone with advanced shooting techniques and has experience working with different camera equipment like DSLRs, Go-Pros, and drones.

A link to your reel must be included in your application materials and should showcase the requirements above. We are not looking for a sizzle reel filled with stand-ups shot by a photographer. Please ONLY share links to material that you 100% shot and edited on your own.

You Will:

  • Develop, create and research news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.

  • Uncover stories through investigation and research.

  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.

  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.

  • Appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration.

  • Write and produce quality news stories for multiple media platforms.

  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.

  • Assist online staff in preparing for multi media stories.

  • Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels.

You Bring:

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.Shoots video to illustrate stories.

  • Ability to shoot video to illustrate stories.

  • Ability to Edit videos for all multimedia platforms.

  • Ability to lift and carry 45 pounds of equipment.
