The National Health Corps (NHC) was established in 1994 with the mission to foster healthy communities by connecting those who need it most with health and wellness education, benefits and services, while developing tomorrow's compassionate health leaders. The NHC has operating sites in Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Florida.
Each year, we recruit members who will serve at least 1700 hours over 46 weeks in community-based healthcare/non-profit settings to improve long term health outcomes in Philadelphia and the surrounding communities. The expectation is that through their term of service, members will be given an opportunity to provide education about and access to critical health and social services, build the capacity and sustainability of their host site organization, and to have a rewarding experience that exposes them to a variety of health care careers and settings. The NHC Philadelphia is administered by the Health Federation of Philadelphia.
