Responsibilities

Photographers are responsible for covering local news for Telemundo and participating in the newsgathering and editorial process. Responsibilities include:

Job Duties

Operate camera, sound, lighting and editing equipment to cover live and taped events

Utilize new and emerging technologies to develop content for Telemundo platforms

Respond quickly to breaking news while taking direction and interacting with the assignment desk, reporters/anchors, production, control room, and appropriate NBC personnel

Understand and practice ethical journalism

Gather news facts and create compelling stories when on assignment with or without a reporter

Edit video for broadcast and website

Operate ENG equipment including ENG cameras, portable VTR, ENG editing gear, audio, lighting and microwave equipment

Monitor and understand government and public service radio frequencies

Operate motor vehicles and live trucks

Contribute to social media coverage

Perform other related duties to ensure high quality news coverage

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Minimum 2 years' experience as a news photographer

Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds of gear

Bilingual (English/Spanish) both written and verbal

Bachelor's degree in Journalism and/or equivalent work experience

Must be willing to work in Washington, D.C.

Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

Must be 18 years or older

Be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required

Must have valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications

Thorough understanding of technology as it relates to non-linear editing and HD photography

Proficient in HD lighting, HD videography, non-linear editing with Avid & Final Cut, Dalet editing, microwave truck operations

Familiarity with new technologies such as Live U transmission, Go Pro cameras and Latakoo file sharing camera equipment

Familiarity with Panasonic P2 Cameras

Strong understanding of computer/IT workflows

Understand File Transfer Protocols

Familiarity with social media

Ability to provide written and visual content to the website

Knowledge of Grass Valley Group Vibrint and Edius or other computer based editing

Team player and adaptive to flexible work environment

Positive work ethic and ability to work under tight deadlines

High degree of integrity and professionalism

The division combines the communications, government relations, marketing and creative services and events functions of the university. This position will report to the Associate Director, Digital Marketing Strategy. Responsibilities include: Provides professional-quality photographic services to The George Washington University community, new media, and other organizations with interest in university faculty, staff, student, and alumni activities. Captures and reproduces photographic images that represent the full range of activities occurring at GW. Utilized creativity, artistic skill, and technical skill, sound professional judgment, resourcefulness, and initiative to adapt and apply photographic guidelines. Performs all quality assurance/produce, post-production functions. Makes intelligent photo-editing decisions that maintain the high standard of photographic qualify and that meet GW's band and messaging guidelines. Utilizes computer graphics editing program and photography software programs to ensure the highest level of quality. Oversees photographic activities for the Office of External Relations on behalf of the University. Sets policies and procedures for photography requests and department operations. Provides guidance to student staff in their areas of responsibility. Participates and oversees staff preparation and participation in briefings and meetings to provide photographic advice and assistance. Plans, coordinates, and schedules multiple photographic projects with key leads, and team members spanning other offices and organizations to help meet internal and external needs for photographic support. Counsels clients on photographic capabilities, and advises on potential applications. Reviews and executes photographic assignments utilizing full scope of technical skills and methods including the selection of appropriate cameras, lenses, lighting, and additional equipment as necessary to produce high-quality images appropriate for various conditions. Selects appropriate composition to achieve desired results. Positions subjects, adjust attire, and arranges backgrounds for optimum results. Assists internal and external clients with photographic needs, recommending photographic techniques and approaches to help communicate intended message and create desired effect, and advising on other professional and artistic subjects related to uses and applications of photography. Manages and maintains the Digital Asset Management System. Catalogs and organizes the University's digital archives of videos, photographs and logos. Makes determinations regarding content, schedules photo shoots and selects videos/photographs to supplement existing material. Assists clients with archival requests for use in web sites, magazines, brochures, newsletters, books, and other publications to include identifying and defining needs. Tracks billable hours; and determines costs to departments for photography services. Serves as University web photo editor. Determines best photographic on-line content for GW's web presence including the main university web site, on-line dailies and other departmental web sites. Researches and approves photos to be utilized. Digitizes images using emerging technologies and integrates into on-line content. Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
