Teacher Fellow for the ACE Institute

JOB SUMMARY

The Alternative Certification for Educators (ACE) Institute and Tahlequah Public Schools invite applicants interested in earning while they learn. This grant-funded position is a program designed to develop a pipeline for Teaching Fellows to earn an NSU STEM Education certificate and become full-time teachers.

ACE Institute will hire five Teaching Fellows in the ACE Fellowship Program per year to work in a Tahlequah Public School self-contained or STEM classroom. Applicants will work with experienced STEM teachers while completing the ACE Institute Fellowship Program and coursework for an NSU certificate in Classroom Teaching and Learning or STEM Education.

Compensation includes full-time salary, benefits, and NSU tuition costs through the Partnership for Alternative Teaching Certification (PATC) grant. Duties include assisting the mentor teacher in developing and implementing curriculum, managing class activities, supporting students, and monitoring academic progress.

The position is funded by the NSU ACE Institute PATC grant. Placement is in a Tahlequah Public Schools classroom.

MAJOR DUTIES

Support mentor teacher in a classroom setting.

Prepare materials, clean up, and assist the mentor teacher as needed.

Supervise learning opportunities for students.

Engage with students to enhance and encourage learning.

Foster a safe learning environment for all students.

Create an academically engaged classroom environment that supports student engagement and learning.

Provide remedial support.

Grade papers and record grades.

Help maintain student records.

Assist with playground and cafeteria supervision.

Help with school events, trips, and activities.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Must be able to maintain regular attendance.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of teacher fellow requirements.

Knowledge of testing requirements and procedures.

Knowledge of university admissions standards.

Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.

Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

Skill in decision making and problem solving.

Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Academic Dean assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include State Department of Education standards, university admission and degree requirements, and teacher certification standards. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of varied duties in the coordination of teacher fellow functions. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position.

The purpose of this position is to coordinate the college's teacher fellow operations. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, elected and appointed officials, local school representatives, and members of the general public.

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table with physical activity such as stooping, bending, reaching.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years of work experience

Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Annual salary $34,560.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
